40/70 Benchmark
Just looked at 12Z Euro Ens, not bad for next 7-10 days, the clipper looks like front end waa snows possible. You guys can talk about the 11-15 heat dome but there are chances ahead. Oh, please.
DavisStraight
not to start shiat, and I'm not, but you did so much better in inches of snow in 09/10 than this year (so far and certainly, up to this date) was it because you (NE) did not receive more snow than any other region in the east or something else that made it so bad, because it just doesn't make logical sense that this year would be worse than 09/10, temp or snow-wise? It was because we had blocking and all the big storms would hit everyone else around us and we'd just get nipped by the edges. We managed a normal snowfall year but it could have/should have been epic.

It's not all about the number at the end of the season, but how you got there and how you did relative to other areas. 4 KU events during the season...I was fringed by one, whiffed on the orgasmic first week of Feb (2), then rained while places to my SOUTHwest got 20"+ in the March snowicane....BTW, there was also one that gave parts of ORH county nearly a foot...rained in that one, too. Like i said...this winter just sucks; it's anticlimatic and thus not so dissapointing. The '10 winter was akin to the 2003 ALCS for me (Aaron Boone), while this season is just a run-of-the-mill stinker. Keep in mind that at the end of the day, I did finish that season below average in snowfall, too...not a good season IMBY.

BTW, that March was supposed to be EPIC...check back on Eastern and have a gander at Don Sutherland's thread. March was the month in which NE would get our's.....March 2010 finished IMBY with a grand total oofffffffffffffff.... One half inch. The wonderful block that had supressed everything to our south all winter, now had grown stale to the point that it vomitted the Atlantic across NE, thus rendering what could have been a repeat of December 1992 into a soaking rainer. I remember all the excitement for March that year...in mid-Feb, it looked like a total gangbuster March was on tap. I don't think one long range Met or amateur thought it would stink. But instead we got a stale block that disintegrated around mid-month in what could have been an Archambault event...then much of the region was in the 70s the next week. I think the month was like +6 or +7 in temps and we had something like 7 inches of qpf...and a grand total of 0.8" of snow at 1,000 feet in interior SNE...lol. What an epic bust and disaster that month was.

Mr Torchey
Meh, I just want to see some snow, Im really down in the dumps and depressed about the fact I do not have a trace of snow since October. I love it more than anything besides my family and friends, its part of who I am as a person. I suppose we all have certain ways to deflect the suck that this winter has bestowed upon us. Life goes on, and life is good, but it would be a hell of a lot better with snow in it, I dont give a flying **** who gets what and or where, I just want a ten minute snow shower to be honest, that would be good enough. THe next 2 weeks AT least suck, hopefully Feb comes in better, but this is my passion and hobby and its totally absent from my life so far for the entire winter. October snow SUCKS DICK, and is completely worthless, I wish I had never got 1.5 inches of summer slush that melted in ten hours. This hurts, and it hurts bad, I am not asking ma nature for much, just to see a dusting would be just fine. Besides a couple upslope events this entire winter to date has sucked rabbit COC for the entire area, its pretty simple. I hope things change soon The landscape is dirty and barren, its filled with mans waste, it needs a renewal, a cleansing...........even those that hate snow are asking where winter is, and the fact its snowing so much in a place that its not supposed to snow gives me pause for concern. May the torch be with you............always.

This winter will fan the flames of your love for snow becuase you'll grow to appreciate it even more. A weenie's passion is comprised of not only the memories of the good ones, but the seasons that make us appreciate them....if you have noticed, Scott, Will and I, among others, often reflect back to those abysmal winters of our childhood circa the late 1980's-early 90's....and how they primed us for the absolute elation that was bestowed upon us when the tide finally turned in December of 1992. The good times are made enjoyable by the bad times.

However, sitting on 0.0 inches of snow for met winter is tough................I grew up in the late 70s and 80s some years down south, some up here, and it was simply brutal. The last few years, heck the last ten have been magical when added up for my location, 95-96 will always be the benchmark here. Like I said, I dont have a trace, just want a snowshower, and I am ok. Keep in mind that at the end of the day, I did finish that season below average in snowfall, too...not a good season IMBY. (I guess it's just a different mindset down here. Snow is so hard to come by every year, if we get any where near normal, it's a victory no matter how it happened. Our last year was similar to your 09/10 with the close calls, but with a lot less snowfall. While PHL had 40"+, BWI had 14.4", or 71% of normal. Talk about an evil gradient. I believe Salisbury and Dover, DE did better than us and I know ACY was way above us, and they're due east right on the ocean. That's not fair!) In short, I hate this hobby that is nothing less than an addiction.
