hurricaneschwartz
So sad to hear of Herb's passing. He was one of my idols growing up, and one of the reasons I decided to become a meteorologist at an early age. One of my greatest thrills in life was to do the weather on-air right next to him shortly after I arrived at NBC10. I was extra nervous because he was next to me, but it was such a thrill. He truly was a great performer and showed such warmth that you couldn't help but like him. Glenn

mattinpa
R.I.P., Herb. I didn't get to see him as long because I arrived in the area during the 1990s, but I always enjoyed his professional and affable style.

Quakertown needs snow
Growing up as a kid I would always flip back and forth between Jim and Herb when a snow storm was pending and see who was posting the bigger numbers. He did a lot for the area even after he retired from channel 10. He will be missed.

JTA66
Sorry to hear about Herb's passing. He's one of the people responsible for turning me into a weather nut. Anybody else remember "super radar"? A quick Herb memory; must have been late '80s/early '90s. We were having a typical winter storm; rain south and east, snow north and west. The station must have gotten a lot of IMBY calls about the storm. The next time Herb came on air to give the forecast, he said, "If you don't know where you live, buy a map, that's why they make them." Classic! Rainshadow
He was near the end of his tv career when I came down to Philly, but the times I spoke with him about the weather, he really came across as a nice, regular guy. RIP Herb and our condolences to his family.
greg ralls
Way back in the early 80s, I had the honor of doing a phone interview with Herb for my 10th grade journalism class. He was very gracious & inspiring.

hurricaneschwartz
Glenn, that was a really nice little tribute you gave to Herb last night. Definitely gave my wife & I some teary eyes. Thanks. It was very emotional for me, since he had such an important influence on my life. It was tough going from that to a normal weathercast. Pohopoco
Just saw this...Herb was classy and knowledgeable and he made me feel like it was my Grandfather talking to me about the weather, doling out extra bit's and pieces of local weather lore with each forecast... Sunny and Warm
sad to hear of Herb's passing. He was a great weatherman and one I followed when I moved to Allentown back in the 80's. Hard to believe NBC10 has had two franchise QB's in the weather dept back-to-back.
