.. SLIPPERY ROADS POSSIBLE INTO EARLY THIS EVENING...

PERIODS OF LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW WILL AFFECT THE WASHINGTON METROPOLITAN AREA... THE SOUTHERN SUBURBS OF BALTIMORE... LOWER SOUTHERN MARYLAND AND CENTRAL VIRGINIA LATE THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY THIS EVENING. TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN NEAR OR SLIGHTLY ABOVE FREEZING CAUSING MOST ROADWAYS TO REMAIN WET. HOWEVER... MODERATE SNOW MAY COAT SOME ROADWAYS CAUSING SLIPPERY TRAVELLING CONDITIONS DURING THE EVENING RUSH HOUR. PLEASE USE EXTRA CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.

Just had an interesting drive from Woodbridge to Winchester. Was snowing in Woodbridge at 10 this morning. Drove from there to Manassas where it snowed the remainder of the day. Took 66 from Manassas to my home NW of Winchester. Snow was coming down nicely on 66 from Manassas to Route 17 where I exited. Probably about a half inch accum in that area. Snow intensity dropped off further North I got. About 8 miles SW of my home the snow stopped and I have nada here. Was cool to see the cutoff happen.

Wow those are nice pics.

A few days ago...or whenever it was, there was a ribbon of some good mid level RH just near and north of the QPF, indicative of some mid level frontogenesis. It was one of those things that the QPF was hinted at, but other things sort of argued for something as well.

I must have beat DCA to the punch... they updated their measured snowfall to 0.2" as of 4:00pm:

SNOWFALL (IN)

TODAY 0.2

Another 0.08" of water equivalent has fallen since around 4:00pm:

KDCA 092152Z 19004KT 1/2SM R01/5500VP6000FT SN FG SCT003 OVC007 01/M01 A3018 RMK AO2 SLP218 P0008 T00061006

Looks like we'll be close to DCA's first inch!

Congrats to HM...he called for an event and nobody really believed it.

HM JB>Ian

you're an asshat. i dont think anyone said it was going to snow all day besides jb. hm did a good job. oftentimes mets outside the region don't forecast this region well. it was colder than i expected for sure though yesterday i said if we only got to 40ish it was a game changer potentially.
