interesting situation on the island right now where the middle island is actually still below freezing while coastal CT, coastal Westchester, bronx, and jersey are above freezing...notice farmingdale at 32, islip at 32, the wind is easterly now blowing across the snow covered land, keeping the interior island cold, while north, south and western areas are warming...LGA, 33, NYC, 33, Newark 33, JFK 34...

* i know this is temporary, but still cool feature to see.

27/20

flurries here on the sound on coastal sw ct.

dude u said on the sound...that 27, which i saw, is not on the sound...the point i was making was about reporting stations right on the water... before the wind blew over snowpack

Not really sure what you are looking at.

BDR the "oven" of sw ct is 31, either understand my climo or dont comment on it.

1. i posted what i was looking at already, all you had to do was click on it.

2. i was clearly referring to the western part of the sound, right on the water.

3. dont tell me what to do, are you freaking kidding me? only a complete tool would say something like that over "climo". Did i insult your climo? did i hurt your feelings?

4. You were the first one to comment that "the radar in the midwest didnt look good" 12 hours before the precip started when CT ended up with a foot. Maybe you shouldnt be the one commenting.

5. Why are you in the forum? You know there is a new england thread right?

Finally, i cant believe you actually made an issue of it. its a weather board. if u have pent up aggression take a karate class

I think the biggest difference between NYC and the Island in recent times was on January 22, 1961...51 years ago today...when Upton saw the temperature fall to -23 F...that is 23 degrees below zero. That same morning, the lowest temperature recorded in NYC Central Park was +11 F...for a 34 degree spread between the two stations.

Light snow falling in Blairstown, Nj with a light dusting on the ground so far. According to soundings, this may remain light snow much of the night, possibly until as late as 3 or 4am, and could accumulate to a half inch prior to going over to light freezing rain, then rain around 6am or so. It is really an interesting situation with all of the layers from the 850 layer down well below freezing, but many of the layers just above 850 much above freezing. I don't recall seeing this before and having it be snow. i would think this would warm the cloud tops and cause sleet.

NYC had light snow on 1/23 and I bet it got cloudy in the city before dawn that helped keep temperatures up while it was clear on the island...Just a guess on my part...

Well assuming the -23 F was recorded around dawn on Jan. 22...it was roughly 18 hours before the earliest any snow in NYC could have fallen..so I'm not sure I agree.

Not very uncommon, the eastern end of LI radiates very well with the sandy soil and the pine barrens. Plus NYC is one of the biggest urban heat islands in the country. If the dews were in the -20 degree range in the dead of winter, no reason why you cant radiate to that temperature.
