Chicago WX
Nah, with the improving depth of the trough, lake moisture and longevity, I think LAF can win some snow coin. Probably end up on the lower ends of the range, but you can't discout a higher total. Lake moisture is kinda hard to attain here, unless winds at all levels are due north for an appreciable amount of time. I can only think of one instance that happened, but it was LES related...and very much a rarity. Trust me though, you'll get kudos if we sneak into that range...but I think 2-3, 2-4" looks solid at this point.
Hoosier
I would probably go 4-8 with LAF area right now. I would if it trends 75-100 miles south.

Hoosier
Regarding ratios, GHD had much stronger winds so presumably the shattering wouldn't be quite as big of a factor in this event. But I'm not really sure at what point it becomes an issue.

csnavywx
Regarding ratios, GHD had much stronger winds so presumably the shattering wouldn't be quite as big of a factor in this event. But I'm not really sure at what point it becomes an issue. GHD was unique in the fact that there was a very deep DGZ (actually two of them in some areas) and dendrite shattering aloft likely aided in a mass seeding of the lower levels (and lower DGZ). The result was very efficient precipitation production with small flake size. The fact that a lot of areas were 14/15:1 or better with those extreme winds is a testament to that. Hoosier
Take this fwiw but since 12/26/09 is an infamous deep DGZ event, I went back and quickly checked some data from back then and the winds for this event don't look much worse. That one had an even deeper DGZ though.
