RutgersWx92
Sure, but if you have the choice between 25 and sunny or 45 and sunny I'm sure you would choose the latter. In January I would choose 25 and sunny.
NorthShoreWx
Other than with respect to heating bills, cold weather in January around these parts is a very good thing.
NorthShoreWx
Some benefits of cold weather in the winter: Many native tree/plant species need cold weather for their seeds to be viable. Most invasives aren't as picky. No bugs when its cold enough Kills mosquitos and other pests. Fewer mosquitos and ticks in the spring Kills some disease causing microorganisms Your metabolism speeds up in cold weather; easier to loose weight No need to mow the lawn Beer stays cold in the garage Dog poop doesn't stick to your shoes. You can walk on water

Along with multiple other reasons why 99% of the population hates the cold like me.

uncle W
Bump.... I thought we would get over 10" of seasonal snowfall last year...Wrong...This year?... so far this year Central park has 5.1"...can we get over 10"...If it stays cold probably yes...Some similar winters with a mild December and one cold month... .It looks like a long stretch of cold with a few breaks maybe coming up...If it lasts for a month this year will become similar to these winters... season...Winter ave...Coldest consecutive 30 days... 1953-54..........37.4..........30.3 1956-57..........35.6..........27.8 1965-66..........35.9..........28.5 1971-72..........35.1..........28.6 1984-85..........36.4..........27.5 1994-95..........37.1..........31.5 1999-00..........36.2..........26.2 2006-07..........36.5..........25.8 the winter of 2006-07 had the coldest period averaging 25.8...That means the other 60 days averaged 42.0...none of these years were great for snowfall but all had a snowfall 5.5" or more and over 12" for the winter...four made it to over 20"...Maybe we could see that with a littl luck...
