bluewave
The pattern this December has been similar to 1999 for Europe. A copule of weeks ago Germany may have come close to it's record low pressure. http://www.wundergro...tml?entrynum=54 Last week there was some great satellite imagery captured with a low near Scotland. http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/ The latest in a series of storms is forecast to intensify while crossing the UK and North Sea. This low will be further north than the last one back in mid December so the area of damaging winds will affect regions further north this time. HurricaneJosh
We're expecting stormy conditions in Prague, with gusts up to ~60 kt in the city. But it continues extremely mild this winter, with temps barely getting below freezing-- even at night.

I know they started very dry and warm but it looks like a few large lows changed that. Wrong?

Wrong? Honestly, I don't know. I know that sounds lame, but I'm not a skier or a winter-weather follower. Sorry for sounding so boneheaded. However, I was talking with my Czech colleagues/clients over dinner last night, and they said the ski conditions in this country-- even in the normally snowy Moravian mountains-- have been dreadful. Although rains have been heavy, the lack of cold and snow for them is very noteable.

The dramatic flip in the AO and NAO from last December made all the difference. CIMSS has a nice entry on the recent storm system. http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/goes/blog/archives/9502
