I hope this year is not as bad as those two, but right now the future is looking bleak in my opinion. I am rooting for you guys back home and look forward to following a decent threat on here in the coming weeks, but with each day that passes it is looking less and less likely. I know you can't cancel Winter on the 5th of January, and I have seen many Winter's where the second half far out performed the first, but sometimes you just get the feeling that things are not going to work out. I really hope I'm wrong.

Says the guy with one of the best easiest jobs in the world who is on a beach right now with two hotties drinking a tropical beverage :sizzle::lmao:

Tullioz,

Glad to see you post. I wondered how you fared during the tropical storm.

I hope you are wrong about the upcoming weeks. I much prefer winter to summer and this year is somewhat discouraging. I will be patient and hope for changes.

I hope I am wrong too. 90% of the excitement of a Winter storm is watching the models and tracking it along with everyone else on this forum. I usually only post obs, but I am on here almost 24 hours a day when there is a storm approaching. Even from 8000 miles away if I don,t look out the window I feel like i am still in NC. lol As for the storm a couple of weeks ago, I made a couple of posts in the general weather discussion about it in the Western Pacific thread. Here in Davao City I just experienced some gusty showers through the night. My apartment is right on the Gulf of Davao and the seas were not all that different from a normal day. Just Northwest of here many villages were completely swept away and the metro areas of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan were especially hard hit. Typhoons are rare here in Mindanao in the Southern Philippines. The last typhoon to make landfall was 12 years ago. Other than that, the weather here is pretty predictable. Everyday is about the same with daytime sun and evening showers and the occasional thunderstorm. The high is usually around 87 give or take a degree, and the low is usually around 72. Every few weeks or so you do get to experience a minor earthquake here, so that does make up for the boring weather

:)

Brick - here is some good news for you. RDU hasn't had a 10" seasonal snowfall since 2003/2004. So this season is 8 years from that date, which is the longest duration between 10" seasonal snowfalls in the past 100 years. We typically average a 10" seasonal snowfall about every 3 years, so we are way over due. Also, we haven't had back to back 10" seasonal snowfalls since 1978/79 and 1979/80. So it's been 32 years which is also the longest period for back to back 10" seasonal snowfalls by a longshot. Records are made to be broken and unfortunately we are breaking records we don't want to break but it will change, I would bet we snap both these records in the next few years and start breaking some records we want to break.

I like the idea of getting 10" in one storm this year (call it a hunch).

I am with you on that one. With this active pattern, if we can get a 2 week period of a +PNA/-AO/-NAO we would be in business. We are getting there, hopefully by end of January we can get the -NAO.

I would love to have one giant storm like the Carolina Crusher in Jan 2000. You'd think with the weather being so extreme in 2011 that we'd get a huge snow this winter. I just hope it doesn't go extreme the other way and we get nothing.

Lol, I doubt you ever see another one of those in your lifetime. Possible but doubtful. Btw, the 12z gfs at hr 384 is almost the fantasy storm you've been looking for, if it makes you feel any better.

I love the idea of a another Carolina Crusher! I thought I heard that every 10 years or so we get those big storms. I am wishing and hoping! By the sounds of the forums, it sounds like things are turning around and looking more favorable towards snow soon. :sled:

Like you and Brick I would love to see another 1/25/2000 but for our area I think a more realistic big snow would be 11, 12 or even 13 inches. I believe our last snow over 7 or 8 inches was in Jan. 2002 when we had 12". So like you said, we are do!

I would prefer two 5-6" events than the behemoth 20" event. A lot more fun.

UM yeah..don't think I am being picky! I will take what I can get at this point - heck flurries! It's just the big snows are really nice and rare.

Brick, why worry about winter. According to weather guru Frankie McDowell, winter armageddon is coming in early February.

:lmao:

I'd put Frankie up against Bastardi any day of the week.

For those of you who have never "experienced" Frankie, volume down please. I really do have a soft spot in my heart for this kid. He truly loves what he does.

That is awesome! And I'd lay money a lot of what he says might verify! Maybe our Storm of The Century? Who knows? :snowing:

You may or may not get a good chuckle out of this... Columbus, GA is 32 this morning... International Falls, MN is 38! You don't see that too often in January, that's for sure!

Yea I saw that Minot was supposed to be 61 today so its not that bad down here, theyre 30 degrees above average1
