Have not posted much over the past several weeks guys, sorry... Absence of winter this year has allowed me to start going through the to do list earlier than was anticipated.

New roof = check

Chimney flashed with copper = check all over that

Gutters = double flipping check

Pressure washed the crib = u betcha check

New back door = pain in the ass check

Painted the shed (barn) = Picasso triple check

New exterior led lighting = Cree XP G check (product of NC)

Still unfinished

Painting the living room

Faux stone the brick fireplace

Trench and apply termidor on the perimeter

Cut down a 30+" river birch that is too close to the house

Still not working but maybe it's something on my end although I can click on any of the other links and they work fine. If someone else would go to Dacula's page and click the link for Archdale, NC(jburns1) we could find out if it's just me.

I clicked on your site and I got "Data not available." So, something does not appear to be working.

So far, this is the absolute worst Winter I have ever seen in this part of the country. Just abysmal. I don't know if we'll get cold or not. I don't ever remember a year where, end to end, there were no legitimate threats even. Don't know if this one will turn out that way, but either way, this just s u c k s.

I feel pretty good about feb and march. Only time will tell. This year I increased our fleet adding another truck, plow and salter. Also have increased our clients. One of the largest snow contractor in the Piedmont and soon be one of the largest in the state. I made the comment a while back that it probably won't snow a bit this year since I increased in several areas. Always next winter!!! I think we will get some action in Feb and March

Better look around there is a company close in between the both of us with over 100 plows and salters. ready to go also. Make me a lot envious just to ride by there.

Just checking in, and it doesn't look like anything is happening anytime soon. :( I was hoping for at least a fantasy storm!

That's been one of the primary frustrations this Winter, I think, for a lot the board...there have been very few even fantasy storms to track this year. In most years, you can at least see potential. This Winter has been no fun in that regard. In all my 37 years (well, the first 10 or so, I probably wasn't closely following weather models :D), I haven't seen a year where there has been such a dirth of threats.

On another note, I grew up in Burlington and go there often to visit family. Mebane has some of the cheapest gas in the state! I always fill 'er up there. :)

I think the difference now is that the GFS has been improved so much, it doesn't generate nearly as many false threats past 7 days that it used to. I remember when it was terrible beyond 168 hours, way too cold and amplified. Now we're not seeing that as much, and I noticed it a couple years ago. That actually took away some fantasy storms that many have grown accustomed to. :lmao:

Throw in the fact that this is a very warm Winter and Fall, and the it's hard to see it generating much false threats. For NC, its not quite as warm (it seems-haven't seen charts) as 2006-07 or 07-08 yet, mainly because we have so many in-situ cads events. Like today, where high temps aren't being realized. This must make the tenth time this season that surface temps have been nearly 10 degrees below forecast.

You don't get it. Gingrich did an excellent job.

It is about time someone put the liberal media in it's place.

He said starting the debate with his previous scorned wife trash was dispicable and it is.

No doubt the corrupt liberal socialist Obama machine paid off Mariane Gingrich.

holy crap, you mad bro?

Look I'm a democrat so I'll get that out of the way first. However can you honestly sit here and tell me that if there was 100% proof that Gingrich asked for an open marriage he would have the support of the republican base? Give me a break. It's a relevant question and voters care about it. For all of his life he's claimed to be a family man who bases his morals on his Christian background. I would say at least 90% of Christians on both the left and right would find an open marriage despicable and not vote on someone solely based on that. That was the number one news story of the day. It SHOULD have been brought up and CNN was doing the right thing by bringing it up at the start to get it OUT of the way. If they didn't bring it up they would have been called out for not talking about it. Newt is running on campaign that he is a old school republican with GOOD VALUES so it's central to what he is running on.

Just for the record I would feel just the same if it was Obama or any other politician.

That's a good point! I hadn't considered that. I think we're all so used to seeing frequent threats in the fantasy range, it's not only disappointing not to have actual snow, but it's like a slap in the face not to even get to chase fantasy snow.

There was no way this topic wasn't coming up tonight. I agree with you that it was good to go ahead and get it out of the way. But that just played right into Newt's wheelhouse, as he is very good at going after the media and scoring with the conservative base. Homerun answer by Newt on that, so if you're a Newt supporter, it was actually a good thing, I think. I think that will play well with the base.

On the other hand, the media will bring that up but will not bring up some of Obama's personal history that is more than questionable. So there is a bit of a double standard there. In any event, it was an entertaining debate.

I'm sure thats part of it, plus the fact the AK vortex is so far away and the cold is locked out west and in Canada, it would be utterly ridiculous almost lately to be seeing a real wintry threat. One of the last big misses it might have had (besides catching onlate to Christmas storm) was probably the Feb 2010 storm. Remember Cuba? Otherwise, if you know its biases and strengths, you can determine whats fake and whats legit. Obviously most everyone saw that the Feb 2010 storm was going to be much further north than it showed. It took nearly right up to 24 hours before it got anywhere near correct. It's probably still bad with supressed flows, but has been greatly improved. Time will tell during our next supressed flow, which may be coming up in February.

Newt had no problem going after Clinton on marriage infidelity in the 90's (He is a hypocrite). Anyway with that said Newt is also the very definition of Washington Scum and his ego is far bigger than he is. As for Mitt he is a walking billboard for the 1% and a complete phony. Santorum wanted to abolish the NWS and his social conservative lunacy is certainly a turnoff. The GOP circus has been entertaining with a horrid field. Unfortunately I have no dog in the fight (I used to be an Obama supporter but he "short changed" us) and I am tired of having to choose the lesser of two evils. If I could vote none of the above I would. Instead I will be writing in.

I think the problem is Obama didn't try to impeach a republican president for doing the exact same thing he was doing at the same time. That plays a big role in why people go after Newt about that. It has a lot to do with his principles and hypocrisy. As for Obama what questionable stuff didn't come up? They brought up the drugs, Ayers, Rev Wright, his freaking birth certificate for God's sake which didn't die for years. I'm not a big Obama fan but the media is just as bad on him as they are on Republicans. Have to laugh that they call it the "liberal elite media" but jump at every chance they get to be interviewed by them!

I'm getting kind of sick of all these "It's only January. We still have Feb. and March" posts in the Mid-Range thread. This optimistic idea has already been posted 337 times so why are you posting it again? You are posting nothing to back up what you are saying so take it to banter. That thread is getting so clogged up.

February of what year? :) I hope you're right and we do get a supressed flow this year. Lots of starved snow geese around here.

I still think we'll have actual below normal cold air at some point. I'm old fashioned though :bag: I've never seen a winter with non stop warmth (or with such short lived cold outbreaks) as this one so far. Its hard to see a cold pattern not emerging in February. If it doesn't happen in Feb to much degree, then it likely will in March, but then it will be too late for snow except the mountains, or a rougue major storm. Anything can happen though, and I'm still optimistic for a good sizeable event at some point, just because of how nature is working to extremes this year. It just so happens, Alaska is having it to the extreme. A few of the years I looked at for blocking north of Alaska, usually ended up providing a winter storm a month later for the Southeast, but not always. I def. think my forecast of a cold Winter here has busted terribly. Even if Feb. is non stop cold, we won't be cold overall for the Winter. I wouldn't be surprised though to see the other shoe drop at some point, where one part of the country thats now cold gets reversed (warm alaska, cold southeast). Makes sense since nature likes working like a see-saw , but the question is does it occur in time to bring snow and 30's or rain and upper 30s?

The Write/Ayres stuff, for example, was being talked about by "conservative" outlets a good while before the ABCs/NBCs/CBSs/CNNs got into it. IMO, the media does lean more liberal than conservative. I don't really lose much sleep over it though.

Not going to delve much into politics on the weather side banter or not but....

Newt sounded like a condescending dick imo. The fact that the crowd cheered does not mean much. SC republicans are not the same as the rest of the GoP and I don't think this story is gonna make many happy about sending Gingrich to battle Obama in November. All it can do is hurt Gingrich at this point, It's the same with Herman Cain, it looked as if might backfire at first but overall it was a big net loss for him. Gingrich is done, Romney is the nominee, and Barrack Obama will be our president for four more years. Lock it in take it to the bank.
