WXinCanton
This is bull****... You're entitled to your opinion but so am I. If you really think that Snow86 is a sock puppet for Widreman then I feel sorry for you. If not then I have no idea why you would post this garbage. Coming from someone who is five posted I'm not sure why I'm surprised. Anyone who talks ill of this winter is being treated unfairly and it needs to stop. If there were not realists around this board would be accuweather. LOL, everyone is so on edge!! Its hilarious

If you can tell from looking at the maps, at what hour does that change begin to occur? All of this is very interesting. I actually agree that a healthy discussion about what does, and what typically precludes snow is good to have. I didnt' have a problem with the discussion, but the manner in which it was delivered was a bit beyond what we USUALLLY have on our fine weather board. GaffneyPeach
Looks like someone is deleting posts in the mid-long range discussion. Sorry for posting about starting a new thread so we would not have to read through all other posts ..and sorry for seconding a motion to do just that. I think we all understand the mechanisms involved in ridging, blocking and oscillations as they pertain to geographic locations and cold/warm atmospheric conditions. I just feel it prudent to state your case and move along. Clutter is maddening. Peach

Bevo
With the entire northern hemisphere going through severe changes and so much cold air on our side of the planet i just don't see how we escape late January, February, and even the beginning parts of March without having a pretty good period (or more) of winter weather. Agree 98%. Don't take it personally, I just never go a full 100% for anyone. No way to fully grasp such a fluid atmosphere right now. Anyone who thinks they have it nailed is likely to be disappointed. Except for maybe 2% of those people who were either lucky or related to Nostradamus. I'm not one who likes to type extra words just to make everyone feel warm and fuzzy, it's an informational weather forum, not eharmony...at least I thought lol. I don't see the NWS AFDs pull any punches when they don't think a storm system is going to produce...so why would I?

Marietta, just to lighten the mood I will tell you that I think I'm going to nominate you for weenie of the year after your cliff diving rant yesterday. If we go another month or even all winter without snow and you take the final steps and dive you should be ready for a run.
Bevo
Yeah, that was funny as heck. People are losing it over this mild winter. The funniness is amplified when you consider that for most of the SE, it's really not much milder than a normal winter. How soon we forget... Cheeznado
Back again to the topic at hand (and then I am out for a while)- The Euro ensembles are not as aggressive as the Op with the -NAO look at 240, but do have slightly above normal heights over/near Greenland. There is still a massive PV over most of Canada, centered in the NW Territories. Not a perfect pattern, but does look cool to cold for a large section of the country. I don't see the NWS AFDs pull any punches when they don't think a storm system is going to produce...so why would I? The unorhtodoxed part came from the backlash you received, also the comment about "do you know anything about the NAO" did not go over very well, I think that is what set the whole thing off. I'm sure you can tell I don't pull any punches and have no problem doing it either. Unorthodoxed was not the right word probably, but it does kinda sum up what just happened. By the way are you a degreed met?

I don't see the NWS AFDs pull any punches when they don't think a storm system is going to produce...so why would I? Could I offer some perspective? I'm not disagreeing with you. I do, however, believe that the picture is much larger than that - but it is a very important piece of the puzzle. But at the end of the day, most of us get told what to do by our bosses, spouses, etc...I would venture that most don't like getting that vibe here. I don't think it was intentional, but it came across as such. Just my opinion.

Snowless in Carrollton
The funniness is amplified when you consider that for most of the SE, it's really not much milder than a normal winter. How soon we forget... Atlanta was 5.1 above normal for December and 5.1 above normal so far in January.... It's going to take a heck of a cold spell the next month and a half to come out even close to normal for the winter.
DaculaWeather
LOL!!! OK, here's the deal. 1. Not everyone is going to agree with everything you post. Get over it. 2. No one has all the answers. 3. Not all mets are created equal. It doesn't mean that you don't show all of them them respect. They earned their degree the hard way and we should show them the respect they deserve, whether you THINK they are right or not. 4. It's OK to disagree, just don't come across like you have the answer from God. The tone of the reply sets the stage for what comes next. 5. Re-read your post before clicking "Post". Read it out loud. If it doesn't come across as polite or respectful, re-write it. 6. Use facts whenever possible, not "I think" or "I" anything. 7. Be nice, we're all up here because we love the weather. Do you realize how stupid it sounds when you FIGHT over the weather??? 8. Read more, post less, it's always a good policy 9. Google is your friend. Use it to look up information and to do your research BEFORE posting. 10. Quit being pissy. You sound like little girls.
Bevo
How inaccurate. This was an extremely warm December - RDU set or tied the record minimum temperature three separate times for instance. The average temperature was 8.6F warmer than December 2010! Speak of forgetting... Lived here my whole life (upstate SC). Not real different from most years. Are you saying that you remember my life better than myself? If that's the case, can you at least tell me where I lost those car keys about 8 years ago? It's driving me crazy. I will concede that I should have clarified that for my region (and based on comments from many people not living in NC, it's not just my region) this is not that drastic of a difference from normal. Technically, most of December is not "winter".
