I expect a damn blizzard in ten days. :)Do not know if their is a saying about having a tornado in the winter :)

Of course there is. After all it is the south.

If a tornado hits your house in winter, 10 days later you will still be waiting on the damn insurance adjuster.

I guess it was not above the ground the whole time. From review, the strongest of

the g2g circulation was between 607 to 613 PM EST, almost right as it crossed

I-40 somewhere between Icard and Hildebran...or about 5 to 7 miles west of the

city center of Hickory. I know you cannot guess a tornado EF rating by radar, but

based upon the damage reports and rotation strength, this may have been bigger

than just a small spin-up. I hope everyone comes out of this ok.

A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SURVEY TEAM HAS CONFIRMED THAT THE STORM

DAMAGE WHICH OCCURRED IN EASTERN BURKE COUNTY WAS CAUSED BY AN EF-2

TORNADO...WITH 130 MPH WINDS. THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WAS

OBSERVED IN THE HILDEBRAN COMMUNITY NEAR INTERSTATE 40.

Wow, the radar data I reviewed did not lie. It matches exactly where it should have. I

can't believe an entire mobile home park was damaged from this. Just terrible timing

for such a storm to be at its strongest. It will take awhile for the people to get back to normal.

My prayers are with them.

The winds out here are as strong as they were during the afternoon. 35 mph peak wind gust instead of 27 mph, and to think I just cleaned up the yard of all the weak branches that snapped before this happened. Hit 55 for a high so never reached the 60 that was forecasted. Down to only 52 now but wind chill says it's more like 46.

EDIT: Looking over the latest information of the Wind Advisory that was put out, winds could actually peak at 50 mph for the overnight. Incredible stuff and that goes for places outside the mountains.

this is an excellent example of extreme cold advection and cold coming in southwest flow in the lee of the Apps. Seems like thats a pretty good way to get high winds on this side of the Apps, as the 5h system whiplashed up the central Apps tonight, dragging momentum across. I would have preferred to see it in the afternoon but you can sure hear it well enough. Wouldn't be suprised to find some downed trees in the morning.

The wind out here is really gusting now and temperatures are dropping like a rock. Went from 52 down to 39 in under 2 hours. In fact, winds have gotten so strong that several trash cans are getting pushed and tumbled down the road and numerous small-moderate limbs are either snapping or have broke off. A part of my siding facing the west side has been ripped out (Again. Spring 2011 storms damaged it the first time) and the winds are suppose to get even stronger afterwards...Going to make for an interesting night.
