Never a good sign when it's 39 in boston on a mostly clear night in the dead of winter.

Seriously....WTF.

Just back from a 3 mile dog walk. Midnight and medium jacket..,no hat and gloves needed...crazy. Thankfully this insanity ends for a spell soon.

Scott N...where did you go?

I saw people ice fishing and skating this morning on the pond at the bottom of my hill

It must be really shallow.

People ice fishing on Bent's Pond here this morning. Pretty good sized.

I thought they were dumb...

Skating is one thing, But they drive vehicles, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles and we are talking a few thousand people and the ice surface is certainly not able to suppport that weight, That is what the fear is of the Maine Warden Service so they have cancelled most of the derbys and winter carnivals so far

Shifting thiese posts to the banter thread. I would not drive out on the pond yet. I took these pictures at MP3 this afternoon. Some folks were out fishing. Neat to see ice remaining on the trees following the icing on Thursday (or was that Friday?). Either way, a fair bit more snow there at 1800' than the 4" we have back at home.

Neat.

I did not seen any ice leftover at the summit of WaWa last night. There was def. icing (albeit light) at around 1200' or so on Rte 2 and even lower down at my house, but it all melter/washed away.

That must be a good spot if it hold on like that in this dreadful torch.

I will grant you that as an advantage of living in the city. Not so much out here--but you can always rustle up a good opposum.

Is there any other kind?

Nice day for sledding with the kids - sunny and upper 30s, though the wind was whipping something fierce. The system the other day that dropped some snow, sleet and ice really firmed up the pack and made for some world-record speeds down the course. Would be nice if the base of the hill didn't have a stand of trees and a rock wall but you play the course with all of its obstacles. The crust made it a bear to turn via the conventional method of putting a hand in the snow, so in order to not fly into the woods and/or rocks it was imperative to bail out at the last second ... a sledding 101 fact that a certain 5-year-old boy learned the hard way. Wish I had taken video of that one.

If all goes to plan, it'll be up for grabs. Special weenie rates.

Opossum--the other white meat.

Right there with you on the sledding. My daughter and I just came in a little while ago. Glaciation at it's best. We also end in woods--or into our road if you bear off to the right sloping side. Either way, bailing out is the way to go. My daughter learned the word "jump" at a young age.
