no blocking = no snowpack retention in SNE

january is the best month for snowpack retention ....now with the sun getting higher in the sky by mid february

our snow pack retention days are numbered....but we did have ONE NICE WEEK of winter. hopefully we can get a nice 2 week period to start february.

I really noticed how early it was rising this morning. Increasing angle FTL.

41.9/33

Still in the 40's at my house currently 44.1 but its started going down now. Really only spent about four and a half hours above 40. Long enough to lose about 3 inches of snow but still have 2.5-3 otg. Should be able to walk on top of it tomorrow morning without leaving footprints with all the water in it.

GHG runs too warm, but probably hit 57.

Normally it does but Norwood was 58..and I did just barely touch 59 here too.....was like spring with a warm west wind. 58.9 and touched 59 on both thermos here one in the shade out front.

Ray it'll still snow, we'll get a good shot or two...I'm sure we'll hit another period of potential in a few weeks...been the pattern all winter. 10/31...11/20ish, 12/20ish, 1/20ish...probably 2/10-2/20 we'll have a good week or so.

Yea, it is what it is....even in this horrific winter, I'm still probably good for another 10-20", at least.

We have patches of grass showing up now here but still holding onto about 75% cover. Looks like it won't be a total wipeout but the grass patches now showing break the string of 12 consecutive days of full snow cover from Jan 12th...longest streak in this hapless season.

Woods that aren't south facing in the Monadnocks still have 1-2" snow cover, but there's a few empty patches even in these forested areas. The fields and open areas of the campus are snow free except for piles and some patches, as are south-facing woods. Can't believe I'm saying this on January 24th in the Monadnocks, totally rotten winters. One of the kids who was in my meteorology workshop made the keen observation that it seems more like an El Niño with the warmth in the northern tier, was proud of him.

Will, that looks better than here. My yard is probably 75-85% but lots of areas are like 50%

41F

There's a few uglier spots...especially if its an open south facing area. Woods are still 100% covered though.

Driving around today it was quite a bit less in the lower parts of the city.

He's held out better than here as well. The Monadnocks have been sh*t for CAD this winter.

You also had less snow than I did in the last 3 events which doesn't help. We've really only had one classic CAD setup and that was January 12th. We had a psuedo CAD setup yesterday, but not all that great.

Open areas here...a couple to three mushy inches. Woods around 4 inches ..maybe a few 5's. Much worse than the thaw a week ago. 31 now so it's done.

It's completely obliterated in all populous areas around ALB and GFL...anywhere in the HV. Also obliterated in central and western NY.

34/30, briefly spiked to 44 but the snowpack has held up very well. Just about to do a little grooming as things are already setting up. Looks like some more snow may get in here soon. Sorry to all those that lost their cover.

Looks very similar to here...you have like 8" or so? Being tucked up against the spine on the east side FTW.

32F with -SN. Starting to stick to the cars and deck.

Nice...how much do you have there? Looks to me like 6-7" or so. I've got a patchy 2" or so here as the torch really did a number on it. West slope torch FTL. We were in the mid to upper 40s yesterday afternoon and evening while you were still close to freezing. I still have about 70-75% coverage, but most of what's left is the icy, sleet laden snow from the 1/12 event. Pretty much all the snow from the 1/13 upslope and 2 minor events from last week is gone. Hoping we can have a net gain on Thursday night, but I don't know.

It's the snow he shook off his hair.
