HoarfrostHubb
-3F/-4. Another day below zero but was hoping for -5. Torch by Al Keetna standards Will, they shot a grey wolf mile from MPM a few years ago. DNA tests confirmed it and it was not a stray "pet" one. Have had bear 15 feet from my front door on a Sunday afternoon in June before. Lol
Logan11
Hah thx... a dubious distinction. and the official low slipped to -11.7F just before 7:00 AM. Now a balmy -8.5F at 8:10 AM. -5/-6 here Rick, congrats on the dd below. Really thought I'd get there too.
Logan11
There is something pretty strange about having a WWA for Hartford and none for Worcester. Come to Tolland CTY which is NE CT!! You'll have wintry precip tonight..and I'd guess they extend the advisory to Windham Cty

HIPPYVALLEY
I've seen all of those things even here except Bear or a wolf, but wolves don't live in NE anyway unless it was a total stray...my relatives in Princeton MA though have seen black bear. Its amazing that as long as you live close to a large tract of unmolested forest, you get ridiculous wildlife. Lol Yeah, they wonder down from Canada and some folks think there are small populations in New England. I thought I had seen an extremely large coyote but two of my neighbors saw the same animal over a few week period and they were pretty sure it was a wolf. This was after the one was shot in MPM's area. Mountain lions are what fascinate me. Sightings too numerous to all be false have been reported in W. MA and VT. A friend of mine who teaches at Umass conservation and wildlife said the state and feds will vehemently deny cougars are here even with physical evidence because if it was ever determined that Eastern Catamounts were still established it would cost them millions. wxmanmitch
Bottomed out at -8.3° F here, PSF -7° F. Guess my forecast low from last night worked out perfectly. We went calm just before midnight, setting the stage for a good radiational cooling night. ALB was only 2° F. I guess the lack of snow in the Hudson Valley prevented them from really free falling. CapturedNature
1° for the low here. I mentioned last night that temps weren't droppinglike I thought they would have given conditions and based on the numbers here, I guess everyone else didn't drop very low too. Looks like a nice wintry looking week ahead....definate change for past.

CoastalWx
Pretty dam chilly still. Some evaporational cooling too along the south coast, as they are warmer than BOS and other locals further inland.
Logan11
22 here... nippy, but a rise of 34 degrees today. Meanwhile torchland in western NY..BUF is 40 already. I predict by Wednesday morning they lose a large % of their LES snowcover and I'm still sitting here with my 5 or 6 inches of concrete and maybe even add some durability to it with tomorrow's event. Logan11
A real wild gray wolf was shot in the central Adirondacks several years ago. They tested it and it seemed to be related to the wolves in Ontario and so the DEC theory was that it wandered in via the Thousand Islands. Nobody ever implied there was a breeding population in the Dacks. But you have to ask yourself....could the few that got shot be the only ones to have strayed south into the Northeast US...... We know that our northeastern coyotes have a certain % of wolf genes in them, but I read that the theory was that during the extermination (via hunting) of the wolf, some interbreeding took place with the remaining wolves and they disappeared as a species on the US side of the St. Lawrence River. But their genes live on in our coyotes. I wasn't implying that sitings of wolves were pet wolves...they are real and wild, but there are no populations of them in NE. Hey Pete...My wife and I were in Westfield this afternoon and had some extra time so we took a ride up Rte 20/112 to see the snow since at best we have patches around here. It was nice to see the snow covered roads again. Honestly, this part of CT usually looks like your area so it was nice a nice drive. Looks like we'll have some snow cover here though for the second half of the week after tonight. 23/
