We've got 'em, didn't load em in the car though.

Are you back home now? How was the skiing?

-0.6/-7

Yes,back home. Happy to see all the bonus snow that fell while I was at MRG. Perfect base builder. First 6" locked up and the a beautiful 6" powder coat. X-c trails. The Skiing sucked, just wall to wall, top to bottom powder. How could that be fun?lol

Last night was probably the best skiing of the season for me. Granted, it was not the powderfest you folks got, but still great

2.3 currently here in the bare ground area of SNE.

My advice to you guys with snow..Cherish it now..One week from now that sucking sound of snow melting is going to be brutal

It will only last a few minutes since I only have 3 or 4" OTG

Maybe this will be like the New Year's torch last year, but delayed a month, followed by a rockin' Feb

Yeah--you missed some fun times on Friday!

Burning some wood today I would imagine

You betcha. I figure we're a little more than a 1/3 of the way through the heating season. Pretty sure I'm going to come up short on my dry supply as I'm already half-way through that. Probably have to resort to the wet wood I cut during the late summer/fall before all is said and done. Not ideal, but could be worse.

Lol. I fully expect that there will be snow on the ground when I return from the tropics.

You barren, snowless guys just want everyone with snow to be as miserable as you. The snow we received this week was promised to be "rain to Canada". I'll worry about losing snow when and if the time comes. For now it's below zero with 12+ OTG, not a ton of snow but enough to have fun in and enjoy the beauty of a Winter landscape. You should go for a ride to where we have snow. Get naked and roll around in it. You are starting to act like that dork Phineas. Which reminds me, how come he's not trolling in here?lol That's right, he lives in Maryland.

I don't want you to be miserable..But you also need to be realistic and understand how warm it's going to get for a period of time..

5F here. Pete when do you leave again? The 9" OTG will be gone probably.

Listen, I feel for you guys. Winter without snow is a drag. I hope you get some snow soon. While this hasn't been the best Winter, if you love winter sports there is no reason you can't be having a great time. I'm not going to sit and fret about a possible torch while snowy Winter fun is right outside the door. Even if the total nightmare scenario you guys seem convinced is set in stone happens, the fact remains that in the snowy places more will fall. It's why I live here. Regardless of what happens here over the next two weeks I'm good. At just shy of 50" on the season so far I think by the end of April the seasonal total here will be quite respectable given the circumstances.

(Summit Lake Area)

Good morning backcountry travelers, this is Alex McLain with the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center on Saturday January 14th at 7 am. This will serve as a general backcountry avalanche advisory issued for Summit Lake as the core advisory area (this advisory does not apply to highways, railroads, or operating ski areas). This advisory expires in 24 hours after posting.

AVALANCHE DISCUSSION

Dangerous Avalanche Conditions Exist, Natural avalanches possible; human- triggered avalanches Likely. Careful snowpack evaluation, cautious route-finding and conservative decision-making essential. Avoid windlaoded slopes and runout zones.

Discussion:

Today dangerous avalanche conditions exist due to windloading over the past 24-48 hours. Winds out of the N to NW have loaded slopes from Summit Lake Area, Carter Lake, Cooper Landing Area, Snow River, Lost Lake and the mountains around Seward. A Large avalanche released at 3:30 yesturday afternoon on Summit Peak (MP 45 Seward Highway)starting in the loading zone and travelling to the valley floor. Winds at Summit Lake are currently NW 10-25mph gust to 55 mph. Additional windloading is the main concern today. The additional loading will increase the likelyhood of additional natural avalanches and make travel in avalanche terrain hazerdous.

Yesturday I got out in the Summit Lake area and found the snowpack was reactive to me with poor structure, localized colapsing "whumphing", and some shooting cracks. Careful assessment and good route finding is essential to staying safe out there. The best plan today will be to avoid windloaded slope and the runout zones. Think before you go!

Be Safe and stay warm!

Frankly, my concerns are focused on snowy issues and not some silly little future torch. Serious bidness upcoming.

Scooter needs a mountain vacation, so does Kev. The woe is me, you will lose your snow is sad. Hopefully this week over performs. There is serious cold nearby, in the meantime full on winter at your favorite mountain. I will be somewhere Tuesday, have not decided might even try the bump in Princeton to get my back stretched out.

I'm just giving Pete crap...he knows...I'm not trying to bring anyone down.

But this whole notion of the "woe is me" is also wrong. This winter is pretty bad. Even Pete's 18-20" or whatever he had this winter is awful. I know he had the freak October storm, but you guys have to stop polishing a terd also. I'm enjoying the cold right now..but c'mon.

49" on the season Scott, the October snow counts even though you don't want it to.
