HoarfrostHubb
well i'm all packed and ready to move to vermont tomorrow. its going to be wierd to not have to cheer for last minute NW trends on SNE coastal storms.....i should be able to at least get scraps instead of blowing cirrus....and i'm the type of guy that is fine with scraps as long as its building the pack. its also going to be wierd to enter the world of SW flow events, something we didnt get here maybe only very rarely (it was cutter or NE wind). Good luck with the move and new job! Maybe the next gtg will be at Stowe

Organizing Low
How long will you be in Vermont? rest of the winter likely, at least. i'll still keep an eye on the weather in ottawa though and will still post my forecast for there. i'll still be visiitng my family there, and i can chase storms their if need be and i can schedule it. good news for me is that i am also closer to chasing coastals again. Organizing Low
You must have gotten several SW flow events in '07-'08. How'd you guys do on 2/13/08? Proba good SWFE up there. not particulalrly i dont think.....they usually redevelop and cut under us. for you guys to get a good SW flow event, there is usually some cold air or big high over quebec, and the lows end up getting forced under or pass directly over us up the st lawrence valley. we dont usually shift away from the NE wind unless its a TRUE torching cutter. unless of course by SW flow event you mean something at the upper levels. i mean i know what they are, but maybe you are referring to another aspect of these types of storms. Proba good SWFE up there. i just looked at NARR for 2/13/08.....storm was heading right for us but then redeveloped along the coast. we do get into SW flow events/storms, but we usually stay on the cold side.... the front end thumps -> mix -> rain/slot dont happen very often here in the heart of winter. storms like to track towards the ottawa/st lawrence valley, or torch us completely. there doesnt seem to be much middle ground. Yes that is what we mean....we aren't talking about sfc wind. We usually keep a NE sfc wind too in SWFEs unless the low goes right over us and usually its not until the end of the storm...we're talking about the mid-level flow...generally around 700mb. Usually a deep layer ripping SW flow from like 750mb to 500mb. Sometimes it can go lower to like 850mb...but often its starting to back to the SE down that low...and eventually to NE at the sfc. Yeah the CAD here is more pronounced than up there to the northwest of all the NNE mountains...so we can get those obscene front end thumps sometimes even in events that flip....but some of our SWFEs might be similar...sounds like the ones you have are like ours when we stay on the cold side...ala 12/13/07 and 12/19/08. Its a SWFE where the sleet line might try and make it up into the south coast or even a little further north, but it never really does any damage....just a snowstorm. Mr Torchey
This to me is just as if not more impressive than daytime highs, dead of winter, dead of night and not a freezing temp in my sight. (except for WCHTFLD 14f)

Ice Warrior commander
Seriously?? AC is in my basement Snowblower still in the shed Yes, it was that bad at 58F. The A/C felt very good. I could not get a good cross vent going. Nice that you can escape melting away with going to the basement. Hopefully you'll be using that snowblower soon! moneypitmike
I'm disappointed I had put my snowtires on in December. Guess they've gotten some useless wear and tear this winter. At least I might be able to locate all the trees and branches for the kick-off of burn season that weekend. Unless of course, they put up a red-flag warning. 33.5/

moneypitmike
Yup. Pretty unbelievable. But, I'm taking it in stride and not buying any toasters. Kind of shocked at how well I'm taking it, frankily. lol Time to post this again I think.
S&P
Haven't played much in RI, just Newport national and Wannamoisett a few times. The only other par69 I've played other than Plymouth. Both Ross gems. I think Wannamoisett gets the nod IMO. Both with devastatingly difficult greens. Tomorrow should be great day down that way. although its closed now, i played newport national yesterday. They pay one employee during the winter (according to what members told me) and he was out there in a cart yesterday playing. no tee boxes of pins but a good time. also montaup and green valley on aquidneck island open with carts. Montaup is a nice track, although they are asking near in season rates now
S&P
some asked if we could do it,but we generated a sea breeze at the coast yesterday. maxed out at 54 here. temp was 60 in north providence on car thermometer as i drove through there @ 4:15. For january it was still very warm with an onshore breeze, hopefully bodes well for spring around here.

Damage In Tolland
Awful, awful news on the cover of today's Globe's local section.... heinous You can wear shorts running with temps in the 20's and be quite comfortable to hot.I do it all the time So the shorts aren't so bad. The worst part for me yesterday was the packs of guys on Harley's all over the place, kids riding bikes and shooting hoops , half to 3/4 of all the cars I passed with windows all the way or partially down ..many with nasty arms with green elbows slung out the sides, and my neighbor draining off his pool cover from all the rain
