snowman21
Is it really 69°F at BAF? http://weather.noaa....rrent/KBAF.html No. Saw it last hour when it was 63 while CEF was about 45. Relative humidity is also way off. I'd guess a broken sensor. Meanwhile here a sea breeze has kicked in knocked temps back from 51 to 48.

I see several madis stations close to one another that are 5° apart and it does not seem to be elevation related. I hope the Westfield temps doesn't feed the "torch" fever that some seem to have! Still, warmer than expected. http://www.erh.noaa.gov/box/obs/BAFobs.html

Never bet against the torch. 50 in January isn't that unusual anyway, never mind in a pattern that has favored over-performing warmth.

HIPPYVALLEY
Made it out to greenfield. 2 hours from TAN. Not bad. Solid dusting on the ground at home. Looks the same here in greenfield. What do you do out here? Next time send me pm and I'll buy you a beer if you have time.
wxeyeNH
No torch up here. 24.8F at 3pm. Ground is white with 1" of snow from this AM. From my vantage point I can see brightness on the south horizon. Both wood burning stoves going on this gray cold Jan day. SNE people blow that warm front north! Do you know why normals are only based on a 30 year period? I remember some discussion in my climatology classes 20+ years ago but I don't recall why. CoastalWx
Is the water cool for a sea breeze? Enough of a temp differential I guess. Or, it could be a very weak BD front type deal. Still feels cool out.

Mr Torchey
I was in Stamford today, crazy to see the greens open at both public golf courses, Sterling Farms and Brennan......forecast low of 34, not even below freezing though I would think I will dip to around 30 here with decent rad cooling. Fire pit is lit, but the ground has now thawed on the top inch or so, muddy night ahead. 10 more days, 10 more days in the period. Departures should be impressive. Why is Hartford always so skewed in relation to any other place, whether snow or temp, sh it even Brainard Field averaged a degree warmer.

I agreed with your 1-20 call last night, looks good for a 6 week blitz. Most years golfers hit the Cape and SRI for open courses this time of the year. Yeah here they usually go to the south shore of long island, and sometimes they play here on temporary greens, but to have the real greens open this late in the season is unusual. Grin and bare it at this point, cold and dry blows...........hopefully the cold comes with snow mid to late month.

I remember one year right after new years I think, or after Xmas, must have been around 99 I think, the cape and SE Mass had 1-2inch all over and West Ma was bare ground. I traveled around for a few hours with my dad and some of his die hard friends and we finally played Westover at the Westover AFB in Chicopee. LOL. One of the funnier die hard golf stories. Great golf course btw, tough track that could be molded into a true champ layout. Conditions are typically subpar though.

We play a course on the seacoast in Hampton NH that stays open and keeps the greens open, frozen or not. I love playing frozen tundra, challenging. "is it frozen or not" comes into play. Perfect shots rarely rewarded. LOL
