3 degrees, wind chill is -8F. Probably won't make it to zero tonight as winds have turned south...but many areas in the southern tier of NY will or already have.

BFD down to -10F, lol...what a weenie spot that is. High elevation but also in a slight basin so they can radiate like mad. Too bad its completely in the middle of nowhere.

surprising that it's a slight basin with the airport at 2117 ft. SLK is -12F.

Yeah well it only takes like a 100 foot difference from surrounding ridges to really get the radiational cooling going, so even if its a pretty high spot regionally, if the immediate surroundings are bit higher then its off to the races. SLK is over 2000 feet too I think and they radiate like mad as well.

I see the same phenomenon here in the ORH hills...there's some spots north of me that are in subtle basins but might be 1200 feet...and they will get down to like -15F on the same night I only make it to -2F or something. I'm on the side of a hill...and even worse is when I'm on the top of winter hill...they will be 5F and the bottom can be -10F.

Pete is in a spot like that, too.

cool I don't know really much about the siting of the airport, there. I know Springville is about the best spot in WNY to radiate. In Concord, on 219...there's a big hill that gets up to about 1800 ft...then you drop into an elevated valley in Springville which is 1300-1400 ft near the Cattaraugus Creek basin. There's been many nights where BUF is 0 to -5F (we don't radiate very well) and Springville gets down to -20 to -25.
