TheTrials
Lol, well, I'm like 40 miles from the NY/CT border but I am in Danbury a lot since I go to school there. I guess that's why I sort of waffle between sub-forums. I know watertown

Brian5671
I was in MD at the time in college and got nothing! That I will never forget and just 3 months prior to the biggest screwjob of them all, 3/6/01. (I think 12/30/00 must have been worse--3/6/01 unraveled over a day or two...12/30, most went to bed expecting a foot and woke up to sunshine.) RutgersWx92
I was only 8 years old during that storm, but I remember going to Lancaster, PA that weekend where they were expecting a lot of snow, but they got nothing but flurries. According to my dad we got back home to about 16'' on the ground. Here are the radar images from Ray's archive. green tube
i also remember that storm starting out as a wall of heavy snow. thunder woke me up around 5 am there was barely a blip on the radar anywhere on the east coast at 1am, by 4am it looked like a nuclear weapon had been detonated off the south jersey coast.... an exploding, expanding bomb of snow, the likes of which i've never seen before or since. 4:30am to 9:30am: 11.5" of snow in 5 hours. 12:30pm to 1:30pm: 4" in one hour. overall 18" in 9 hours. But the western half generally saw a decent snowfall of 9 - 12 inches (nothing like parts of Jersey, but still decent enough to be something pleasant to recollect..I meassured 9.0" before changing to sleet around 2:00 PM in the afternoon...and by then, the bulk of the precip had moved through.) Copy 'n paste from a post I made at EasternWx...where I got it from then...don't recall...might have been either Boston NWS page or Albany NWS page...whatever the case...it is not on either of those two sites now... Absolute Humidity
i wish the fort dix radar was available. the link to Rays site at top of page has KDIX pics frame by frame. That was an awesome storm for any one North of 39 for the NYC area. Philly and south were pretty much screwed and we all know what happened to Boston. psv88
I remember i was in amsterdam visiting family for this storm and the cool thing was the flight back on Dec 31...we flew west down the ne coast, on eastern long island i remember seeing very little snow, and by the team we approached western suffolk there was about a foot and then the amounts increased more as we got near kennedy. I recall our house in western suffolk getting about 13 inches from this, which all of the neighbors said came in about 6-7 hours...thats my recollection..
