HoarfrostHubb
I joke about 1979-1980 I know it is still December. Most of us want snow. We get disasters now and then, too, which are a little interesting in their futility. What dead ratters full of putrid rotting air masses stand out to you? I remember '79 vividly since it was just 2 years after the biggest weenie event of my life. 2006-2007 was awful to start but got good later on
40/70 Benchmark
Nothing beats that horrific stretch from the late 80's-early 90's....I remember when I was in 5th grade ('91-'92') we got like a 5" event, and I was just beside myself. December 14, 1992 marked the dawn of a new era and my perspective on winter events was forever altered.
Ginx snewx
Awesome DECEMBER SNOW... WITH THE MONTH OF DECEMBER WINDING DOWN...IT HAS BEEN NOTED HOW SNOWLESS THIS MONTH HAS BEEN. THREE OF THE FOUR MAJOR CLIMATE STATIONS ACROSS SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND HAVE ONLY RECEIVED A TRACE OF SNOW. THIS WOULD BE CLOSE TO OR RECORD SETTING FOR THE MONTH OF DECEMBER. BOSTON...CORRECTION A TRACE OF SNOW HAS BEEN REPORTED THROUGH DECEMBER 27. THIS WOULD BE TIED WITH 1899...1927...1953...1957 AND 1973 FOR LEAST SECOND SNOWY DECEMBERS ON RECORD. NO SNOW WAS REPORTED IN BOSTON IN DECEMBER 1999. PROVIDENCE... A TRACE OF SNOW HAS BEEN REPORTED THROUGH DECEMBER 27. THIS WOULD BE TIED FOR SECOND LEAST SNOWY DECEMBERS ON RECORD WITH 1936... 1941...1943...1973 AND 1979. NO SNOW WAS REPORTED IN DECEMBER 1927. HARTFORD AREA... A TRACE OF SNOW HAS BEEN REPORTED THROUGH DECEMBER 27. THIS WOULD BE TIED WITH 1927 AND 2006 FOR LEAST SNOWY DECEMBERS ON RECORD. WORCESTER AREA... A TOTAL OF 0.3 INCHES OF SNOW HAS BEEN REPORTED AT WORCESTER THROUGH DECEMBER 27. THIS OCCURRED ON DECEMBER 8. THIS WOULD TIE WITH 1892 FOR THE LEAST SNOWY DECEMBERS ON RECORD. DECEMBER TEMPERATURES... DECEMBER OF 2011 HAS ALSO BEEN VERY WARM. LOOKING BACK AT THE RECORDS THROUGH DECEMBER 28...ALL FOUR CLIMATE STATIONS ARE AT LEAST IN THE TOP THREE WARMEST DECEMBERS ON RECORD. TEMPERATURES WILL ADJUST A BIT MORE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE MONTH. BOSTON... THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR DECEMBER 2011 SO FAR IS 40.7 DEGREES. THE TOP FIVE WARMEST DECEMBERS ARE... #1 41.1 DEGREES IN 2006 #2 40.7 DEGREES IN 1990 #3 40.5 DEGREES IN 2001 #4 40.4 DEGREES IN 1891 AND 1923

Collinsville
2001-02 without a doubt. DJF all torched, never got below 10F, only one day stayed below 30F all day and that was in later March. I often wonder how I managed 30" that miserable winter. 1998-99 is right there too.

HIPPYVALLEY
Was there a winter in the 70's or early 80's where Logan only got 15-16"? for some reason I seem to recall that.

Damage In Tolland
It's very possible that none of the 4 major climo sites records more than a trace of snow from here on out. It looks like most of Jan is skunked and a carbon copy of Dec so we are left with Feb. March is spring..so we've got 1 month to get a couple inches of snow in Feb
Mr Torchey
Yeah, incredibly horrid. Similiar to this MET autumn, I think we should all jump on the Weathafella train and hope for all time records of futility!

Collinsville
97/98 was the worst I ever saw That one was really bad too though it had a ok start, if Feb 98 didn't cause you to swallow a pistol then nothing will. 98-99 was heading toward the record books as worst ever (here, it was much better in Eastern SNE) but a couple of good March snowfalls saved it from that honor. Then there's 99-00 which sucked other than the one good 3-4 week stretch. 3 big clunkers in a row there, thankfully 00-01 talked me off the Charter Oak Br. ORH_wxman
ORH actually had a trace of snow in December 1999...but that was during the bad data years so BOX didn't list it. But I thoroughly re-created that month many times because I couldn't believe there would only be a trace...but it is definitely correct.
