It settles as soon as it falls and rarely causes any big problems because it falls where there is no population. Even when it hits Buffalo, they barely react because its so localized and has very low water content so it can be sneezed away.

Just pointing out these LES events usually come at the onset of winter, and its been another element missing in this disappointing season so far. I wouldnt say it rarely causes any big problems. Different problems than a large synoptic event here, but problems nonetheless. Either way, Im glad to finally see cold air pushing across the lakes, short lived as it may turn out to be. cleetussnow
These snow events are worth the trip. Experienced many myself. yes its light and fluffy, but the intensity is unreal. and it piles up quick. And there is no such thing as fake snow. Snow is snow. If we got 20-1 ratios in NYC, is that fake? I think not.

JCsnow17
The warm January calls are in trouble if the gfs has a clue. Although the rest of the models are not too mild anyways going forward. I guess it doesn't matter though if its cold and dry.

Not the typical SNE gradient pattern where we get screwed, cold air engulfs the entire country.
Cfa
Another gorgeous late fall day, I just went out in a t-shirt (the sunshine made it possible). We all know Winter is coming, I'm just ready to get it over with. Hopefully it ends abruptly in February like last year. I don't even want snow anymore. Happy New Years!!! JCsnow17
You got to give the gfs credit for staying consistent. The euro is too sporadic imo and will prob end up being too warm in the long range while the gfs ends up too cold.

Finger Lakes arent LES hot spots...i spent four years there too. We always had to chase towards Syracuse to be in the good stuff. Buffalo late Dec '01 is a good example of how paralyzing lake effect can be...
