MJO812
yup...it's been over for some time. Only thing left to root for is snowfall minimums for our respective stations... HI Colin

mattinpa
wow..another atrocious run. we just gotta watch and laugh at this point If it lasts another couple days, I'll be pretty concerned. If the pattern doesn't flip by early February, my feeling is it will be one of those lost winters.

Sn0waddict
Meh after how great last winter was, how could I complain about this winter being horrible? It sucks not seeing a damn flake since Oct.. but you got to give to get, and the snow gods spoiled us last year, so I can give a bad year in return. earthlight
Without any high latitude blocking over Greenland or help from the North Atlantic, this type of regime over Alaska and the west coast can really burn us. Especially with the Southeast ridge being able to flex its muscles.
tmagan
A little early for the Florida severe weather season, but next weeks rainstorm may bring a squall line through at least northern and central Florida.
Weathergun
Sunday Clipper little further north/amplifed on the 6z GFS. Only model showing this though. I don't buy it yet. http://www.meteo.psu...6z/avnloop.html
SnowGoose69
I promise everyone here there will be a snow event this month. I know alot of people are giving up but I'd even go as far as saying there will be a snow event by 1/22. It may be a SW flow snow to rain deal for most of the region but we still could see a decent 2-5 inch event ahead of it. The clipper has some potential, followed by the 2 events afterwards the GFS and Euro are showing around 144 and then Day 9 or 10. The event at 144-156 hours or so is probably the least likely of the bunch to come through. Think something along the lines of a 2/22/08 or 2/18/00 type event. TheTrials
Banana highs Not.really anthony. That is a zonal flow gradient pattern. Banana high arches from the south all the way to the ny Canadian border, like the shape of the banana. See the map I put up in the 96 thread for a classic banana high look. NEXtreme
One thing to watch is the some of the snow cover increasing by the weekend across the nation. Wouldnt the surface boundary conditions change and shift models? - allowing colder air further south?
mattinpa
It already is one of those winters. February can be the snowiest month, so not yet. Trying reverse psychology?
Sundog
February can be the snowiest month, so not yet. Trying reverse psychology? "One of those winters" I assumed meant that we go through a massive snowless stretch with above average temps. Looks like we got that already. Think about it this way.....its going to be real easy to say next winter will be better.....what's pathetic is I did more tracking in august and october then I have all winte......amazing how its just not our area also......snowless everywhere....it's better then just us getting the fu. It would be a lot worse than if this was an 07-08 where we would watch heavy snows pound areas just 50 miles north of us and leave us with constant 33F rain or mixed/sleet events. Misery loves company..... I agree. I'm not even that upset that there's snow because you can't do anything about it. But if it was one of those years where SNE got slammed or just 20 miles north of us they got wrecked I would be so pissed. Boston got 50 inches in 07-08 and that was measured at Logan! Screw that this winter is infinitely better.

Agree 100%.....its not like I sleep better knowing boston is getting nada....but its humbling....and they probably glad they are not watching dc get crushed. Chicago looks to get a nice storm tomorrow.....first all season. Perhaps this clipper will work out for us Sunday....gfs has it...euro nothing....but sometimes these northern stream features are model better then closer to the period....I would love a outcome like 06zI gfs
ag3
You guys are acting like its March 20th, with this talk. Its January 11th; calm down. If we still have this awful pattern in mid February, then it's time to hang it up. We also have a little clipper in the short range that could impact us. Let's see. One of these damn things has to hit us eventually.
