You guys keep mixing up your years. 2006-2007 is the year that went cold after being warm and gave us the sleet storms. 07-08 was a disaster except for a week in February where there was a 3 inch event that was washed away by rain the day after and that surprise 7 incher. That was it.

So it's almost mid month- and there isn't anything on the horizon... I can't think of a period of time over the past 25 years that has been this boring.. I'm 34 and my memory goes back probably to the 83 storm (i remember it fairly well for a 6 year old) Yes, I know we had our 1980's problems and the 90-91 winter stunk - oh ya after thanksgiving of 1989 truly sucked too, but 91-92 (i remember having a decent storm somewhere thrown in there b/c we went home early from school..) i know i'm throwing winters out left and right, but wow.... This has been one of the worst... There is nothing to track - nothing on the horizon and we're all just sitting here waiting for the next round of model runs hoping and praying that something comes up... There have been a few hints lately but all of them have just fallen by the way side..

At least in 01-02 - buffalo and the lakes region had an amazing run of lake snow.. I just don't know how much longer any of us can go.. I know many have been arguing about how it can snow after Presidents Day, but honestly - Once march comes - snow just kinda sucks.. Besides 1888, I can't think of a storm that was a true cold weather storm.. (besides, the 1888 storm was rain initially that turned to snow.. - don't get me wrong - i'd take that type of storm in a second..) The sun is higher in the sky and the snow melts pretty quickly after it falls..

Last year truly was the best- winter began early and came in w/ a bang- it lasted b/c it was at the beginning of winter and it stayed cold.. By that last snow event in mid to late feburary of 2011, i was about done w/ the winter of 10-11...

A nice President's day Blizzard like 79 or 03 would be beautiful, this year... :)

93 certainly was. It didn't feel like a spring heavy wet snow type of event. It was a drier snow and even with the changeover the snow stuck around for a few days and we even added a couple inches to the snow pack around the 17th (we averaged nearly 9 degrees below normal from the 10th thru the 24th).

The storm was Saturday into sunday and I didn't go back to school until Wednesday because they had so much trouble clearing the snow.

its only fitting to have a snowless winter sandwiched with a late fall KU and an early spring KU. just saying.....i can see Feb turn around with a couple minor events and then a huuuuge one in mid to late March to close it out. then an earthquake in late spring followed by a volcanic eruption in Union County NJ in the summer.

The March of 93' storm was a tough one for me on Long Island.. I don't remember exactly what happened in other parts of the region, but where I was, in western Suffolk county - it snowed a lot initially - about 10" of wet snow - we then dry slotted badly and then turned to rain, I think.. Maybe it turned to snow at the tail end, but again, i don't remember.. And yea, it did get cold for a couple days after...

But over all 92-93 was an awesome winter - w/ the December of 92 and then March of 93 - two once in a century events in 5 months..

I remember in the evening the temperature was still 38 and I was calling bust. By 6am it was snowing hard though still 32 but it dropped into the upper 20s during the heart of the storm. After close to a foot we had several hours of heavy sleet then a dry slot followed by some rain and then backlash snow. The low passed right over my house. Due to the sleet and refreeze the snow was a b*tch to shovel. It was also our biggest snowstorm in a decade so even though we didn't get 2 to 3 feet like interior it was still a great event. I wasn't sure at that time if we would get a KU storm in this area again.

Hard to classify the October event as a KU in my opinion. I stand by all of my previous statements. If February first rolls around and nothing is on the horizon, its time to start getting a tad worried. When President's Day rolls around and there is still nothing on the horizon of significance (my bet for this year) it's time to bust out the golf clubs.

I wish I can publically share the texts that you and earthlight send me after a bad gfs or euro run.

You like the mildness my ***

you and John have been telling me snow has been coming and I tell you I am content. I barely even look at the runs anymore.

Regardles, even if I was begging for snow right now, the pic really isn't funny.

I agree with you, there is something exciting about 50's and 60's in January. I love snow just as much as the next weenie, but it just seems like it doesn't want to happen this year so if that's the case, bring on the warmth.

i think its been debated before...but in the end, it is. maybe not in your backyard or other ones around the tri state, esp S and E of 287.....but it was for many places N and W, in the interior. I was lucky enough to cash in...but if i was in my old stomping grounds in CNJ where "only" 2" fell, the overall look and evolution of the system was still a classic.
