pazzo83
I would take that in a heartbeat. With the Valentines day storm that season, I received 19 hours of sleet with temps in the teens and 20's. I received 4 inches of sleet. Amazing storm. We had the same in DC, I remember that storm well. Thunder, sleet, and mid-upper 20s.
bluewave
Parts of the Northeast especially where the heaviest amounts fell have a shot at the October snows being the biggest of the season.
psv88
Both the sleet storms that year were awsome. Looked like snow and lasted forever, due to its density. I'll take that in a heartbeat. I lived in atlanta from 2002-2006 for college, missed a ton of good storms, then moved back to ny in 2006. Then 2006-2007 was a miserable winter. 2007-2008 was an icy disaster and i wondered if it ever snowed in New York, or just ice. Finally, 2008-2009 saw decent snow events. The ice storms in 2007-2008 rounded out 2 solid winters in ny with almost no snow, after the previous 4 years were fantastic, which i missed. therefore, i hated the sleet. And you think this is bad, try being in ATL, where 2 hours of freezing rain is a big event, while long island gets plastered in PDII...that is misery... easternsnowman
This upcoming summer should be hot and dry, if we continue to follow the same analogs. I also like the idea of a cold wet spring which I now think will hapen. In fact I bet we see more snow in March than we see all this met winter...1979-80 was somewhat similar. Stormlover74
so you didn't get the 6 to 8" of mostly all snow on 2/22/08? psv88
so you didn't get the 6 to 8" of mostly all snow on 2/22/08? Im pretty sure it was not mostly snow, it was supposed to be, but it kept mixing, if i remember correctly...but i will agree 2007-2008 was a better winter than 2006-2007. Stormlover74
Actually for the city and much of central NJ at least we were in the 3 to 6" band with a changeover predicted. We didn't really mix until after the snow had mostly stopped so by then we had accumulated over 6" in most places. I thought JFK or Brooklyn reported 8". Im pretty sure it was not mostly snow, it was supposed to be, but it kept mixing, if i remember correctly...but i will agree 2007-2008 was a better winter than 2006-2007. Yeah John, because a record hot summer and a record hot ocean really helps us out in marginal winters. We remain 5-8 degrees above normal in ocean temps. Kills us in marginal winters and marginal setups. :axe:

IsentropicLift
None of the 80s winters were this bad though. I know I had at least one snow day from school every year. It's amazing we can't even get a dusting or snow shower. I figured if we do get cold to end the month we would have to get something. Jan 2003 was a month that comes to mind, largely cold but in between 2 stormy periods it was relatively quiet. But we still squeezed out a lot of small events and I think we had a trace of snow on at least half the days (we actually had 4.7" of snow but had at least a trace on 19 out of the 31 days) Let's not forget what occured in February later that year
