Chris L
What a difference a year makes... January 2011 was a dream month, classic big block, Polar Jet/Southern Jet were active for us... Right now, we would be tracking January 11-12, 2011 storm for us... January 2012? a 180 opposite.

If in 2 weeks the models dont show a change then fine, but its way to early to throw the towel in. Brian5671
We got so lucky last winter. until the pattern flipped for good Feb 1st...LOL-amazing that we were largely done at that point. Maybe this winter it's the opposite---although I am not counting on that....watch this storm in NE trend even further north the next few runs...just doesnt' want to snow anywhere this year
WIN
Having lived through many horrific winters during the early & mid 1970's and a good portion of the 1980's into the early 90s, this winter brings back memories, not good ones though. We've all gotten spoiled the last several years & this was bound to happen at some point. Still time for it to turn around but we shall see. All I can tell the younger posters here is that you'll survive just like us old folk did back in the day....

MJO812
that would be a big win this year--something, anything.... I would take that in a heartbeat. With the Valentines day storm that season, I received 19 hours of sleet with temps in the teens and 20's. I received 4 inches of sleet. Amazing storm. Stormlover74
None of the 80s winters were this bad though. I know I had at least one snow day from school every year. It's amazing we can't even get a dusting or snow shower. I figured if we do get cold to end the month we would have to get something. Jan 2003 was a month that comes to mind, largely cold but in between 2 stormy periods it was relatively quiet. But we still squeezed out a lot of small events and I think we had a trace of snow on at least half the days (we actually had 4.7" of snow but had at least a trace on 19 out of the 31 days) Having lived through many horrific winters during the early & mid 1970's and a good portion of the 1980's into the early 90s, this winter brings back memories, not good ones though. Getting out of the law school parking lot was impossible and the streets in fresh meadows/jamaica estates area by St johns were horrendous. There is nothing fun about 3 inches of sleet at all. Better than a rainstorm with temps in the 50's. Our area was so close to received a blizzard from that storm. We then received another sleetstorm the month after on St Patricks Day. Both the sleet storms that year were awsome. Looked like snow and lasted forever, due to its density. I'll take that in a heartbeat.
