Alot easier than it is for snow in Nassau county ;)

Agreed. Nassau sucks for snow, at least i live central/northern nassau, southern nassau is in the real shaft zone...although, hows your snowpack holding up these days?

Not soo good. Having to go in my freezer to get my ice fix isnt what I had in mind. How was snorkeling in the frigid waters off Hawaii? Any success in warming up the waters for a nino next yr?

Haha. Snorkeling was pretty sick, saw some turtles and cool fish too. The dolphin and whale watching was great, one whale came right up to the boat and played w us for a while, i have some sick pics.

The water was frigid, but my snorkeling guide, Heidi, was smoking and definitely added some warmth to the waters...As was my run in with Leann Rimes, i managed to get a 5 min into and photo session with her after the concert she put on at the ritz, so those two should confirm a strong el nino emanating from maui...

Observations are showing that there's widespread snow falling from near/south of DC into eastern Maryland and Delaware. It's the 2nd time that the Mid Atlantic got steady snow and some of us still have yet to see more than a few flakes... eventually we'll get our snow. I'm thinking it could actually be as soon as late next week to 2 weeks from now if the gradient pattern does set up as modeled, the set up definitely isn't as good as it could be but there is plenty of cold air available not too far north, with hopefully at least one storm suppressed far south enough to bring snow to NYC.

Damn. Im betting on a snowless January at this point. Its the 9th already and people say in 2-3 weeks we may get a chance...yet there is not one chance that isnt a long shot. I think we get a small event mid-February, maybe 3-4 tops, then a small one mid-march, 2-3. Seasonal total of 8 inches for me.

Good thing i bailed on the ski trip to vermont for this weekend, base looks to be pretty weak and the skiing will be shiite.

Almost looks like the ECM actually has snow at hour 216. I don't have full access to the ECM though so I can't confirm this. Regardless of whether there's snow or not, at least it finally gets colder for more than 1-2 days at a time this run.

It does show a snowstorm from 204-222 hours that deepens offshore thereafter and hits New England pretty hard. Has the looks of a 3-6" event here.

lol, too scared to ski at a real mountain?

unfortunately, even the real mountains are in horrendous shape. im a jaypeak whore but who the eff wants to pay $75 ski on this garbage:

JAYPEAKRESORT.COM

The sun had planned on making an appearance yesterday, but instead we had light snow with, at times, heavy squalls that brought 1-2" of new snow. When it snows four days in a row, we open more terrain; nine new trails opened yesterday, three of which are glades.

TODAY: You'll be skiing or riding on 36 of 76 trails under partly sunny skies with temps in the mid 20's at the base and teens at the summit. Today's lift tickets will be $75 for adults and $55 for juniors.

yeah, its a bad ski season, but he can't handle a mountain like Jaypeak even in the best conditions.

I skied at Camelback a few days ago and it was atrocious. We went for the night and by 7pm all of the fake-crap snow turned into a sheet of ice because of some melting during the day.

Gotta make the trip up to Stratton later this month.

Terrible mountain lay out and the worst prices in VT. The woods suck there as well.

riiiight, I am heading to the swiss alps tomorrow.

you don't believe me eh--must be hard for a guy who think Vermont skiing is world class....

well believe me or not, b/c I won't be on the board that week and I'll post a couple of pics when I get back...although my folks out there say there's been a lack of snow as well (By western standards)

Common misconception is that skiing out west is harder than in the east. Its actually reverse. The east has much more narrow trails with more ice. Out west is more wideopen with powder and much less ice.

Even the best skiiers will have trouble will jay peak, etc when it is a crust of bumpy ice. Even a beginner in the east can ski many of the wide open, deep snow filled western slopes.

when is it ever not atrocious--crowded, too far south for any good snows (most years) and usually all skied off by 10am due to the crowds--I grew up going there when I lived in PA....

100% correct. The width of the trails is what makes a difference....ice is almost never seen b/c it never rains out there. Perfect setup. Warm when it's sunny most days, yet when precip moves in, it cools to below freezing every thime.

I agree, never said otherwise. West coast skiers who come east fail miserably because they dont know how to use edges and aren't used to the tight off piste trails.

Sugarbush is fantastic. Probably my favorite to ski. It is definitely a bit of a trip, but my friends and I rent a condo up there usually once a year.

Sugarbush;s north mountain slopes has some tricky moguls and sick woods, when there is snow though
