Even the gfs has pretty much given up, it doesnt even show any :weenie: storms.

Let's just move on and get to next winter.

Nah, it hasn't given up. It goes back and forth but you can see each run how it would burn us and each time it's for a different reason. This run, by the time the big GOM low gets up here (around the 12th if I remember correctly), the cold air is long gone. Then there is a slight bit of blocking (around the 15th or 16th), and storm develops well out in the Atlantic nowhere near us. Then, and as there almost always is, the fantasy range 384+ hour storm, which if you took it literally, is happening in the best set-up so far this season, but what will it look like in 5 days at 240 hours? Almost certainly nothing like this. So, on and on it goes. Actually, I would say that realistically speaking, the closest call for some snow this run may be this coming Sunday--the system which will probably either not have quite enough cold air to work with, or end up mostly missing us to the south and east. But honestly, these maps do not instill confidence in a robust winter weather pattern that produces winter storms.

If this winter does fail to ever come off life support, it will only make the October Snowstorm look more like a fluke.. Honestly, at this point, nothing about this winter makes any sense..

Based upon what we're seeing there is about zero chance of anything happening before 1/15/12 and if things don't turn around on the models soon (and look promising - we'll be throwing January out the door.. Then all we're left w/ is February, and as I stated in 05/06 - things were looking horrible and we did suddenly get the February snowstorm..

Honestly, what's most upsetting to me and what I really do enjoy the most is tracking stuff and reading everyone's feedback.... As much as a love a foot of snow.. It comes and goes pretty quickly down near the coast. I just can't get over the fact that there is NOTHING to track!!!!!

It's driving me insane!

It's not that there's nothing to track. Just have to realize the chances aren't that great and therefore the models are likely to also have unfavorable solutions.

What's also insane is that our area is not the only one who is suffering. Usually in La Nina year, our area gets screwed while SNE and NNE gets creamed. That is not the case this year. In 2006, we had 11 inches by this time. NYC has only 3 inches right now. Until the pattern changes, we aren't going to see major storms a long the coast.

I remember it being in the 70's in January. My dad and I were playing stickball in the middle of January.

There is always something to track- even if the coast gets hosed and Inland locales get a nice snowstorm.. There just aren't any storms.. Like someone mentioned above- The entire U.S. is in one strange weather pattern.... It usually snows in certain locations....

Mother Nature must have said to herself this year... "Listen, I gave you everything I had for the past 2 years... I have nothing left... Maybe in a year or two i'll throw you a bone..." hahaha

Yeah tell me about it...some would say that a winter like 07-08 was the worst because, while there were storms to track, there were a lot of disappointments and we had to watch places to our north get hammered. But now that I've lived through such a boring period as this one I think I'd prefer an 07-08 type winter. Even if there are disappointments at least there's still some excitement tracking the storms and we usually get at least something.
