IND will have to do some work to get into the top 10 warmest Decembers list...currently at 37.6º through yesterday. And just for reference, December 2006 came in at 38.8º.

1) 46.2º - 1889

2) 45.5º - 1877

3) 42.4º - 1923

4) 41.2º - 1931

4) 41.2º - 1918

6) 40.8º - 1875

7) 40.6º - 1891

7) 40.6º - 1881

9) 40.2º - 1982

10) 38.9º - 1994

Relatively speaking, this December (2.3") far from a disaster when looking at the top 10 least snowiest Decembers at IND.

1) 0.0" - 1889

2) T - 1940

2) T - 1931

4) 0.1" - 1941

4) 0.1" - 1896

6) 0.2" - 1991

6) 0.2" - 1979

8) 0.4" - 1982

8) 0.4" - 1971

8) 0.4" - 1970

Had 0.1" of snow this morning, then some snow melted as fell, then some rain, total precip 0.05". The light coating of snow we had the last few days has all melted now as its 38 degrees. DTW needs 0.33" of precip tomorrow to finish the wettest year on record. Looks unlikely but you never know. My next period of interest is the lake effect snow Sun-Mon...looks like it could be interesting even here (and very good in the belts).

This was actually the 8th measurable snow since Nov 30th, totalling 5.4" imby (6.3" at DTW). All the snows were nuisance, but its still something in this pattern. That said, cant WAIT to close the books on this December!

0.33 to tie and 0.34 to beat it. Man do we need a good shower just over metro-airport this afternoon. Not likely but we'll see.

SE MI NWS area shows the north/south gradient to the yearly precip totals pretty good.

Flint is currently and will finish 4th. Approaching but not really near the record being ~5" away. ~7" less than DTW.

Saginaw is just a somewhat above normal for the year and not even near the record being ~10" away. ~14" less than DTW

Torch yesterday, today, and tomorrow here...but not as warm as last year at this time. Plus I think the temperatures last year were impressive considering we had a double digit snow pack to erode...which it did quite efficiently. :(

12/30/10: 52º

12/31/10: 60º

1/1/11: 57º

Haha... it's going to be 50 degrees on Dec 31st, 22 degrees above normal. Check out the forecast wording used by the Quad Cities nws.

.REST OF TODAY...BRISK. NOT AS COOL. MOSTLY SUNNY. HIGH AROUND

50. SOUTH WIND 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 30 MPH.

We're in different worlds right now. Everything is covered with ice and it's struggling to get above freezing.

With 0.34" of rain with Fridays system, is is official! By 0.01", Detroit has broken the 1880 record, and now 2011 stands as the wettest year on record with 47.70" of precipitation! Also, with 66.1" of snow, 2011 is the 8th snowiest calendar year on record for Detroit. I plan to do a writeup on the wet year in the coming days, but for now, Happy New Year all!

Not much of a torch yet. At least no gusty winds currently. 39°, with high clouds here. Probably be warmest at the very end of the daylight hours.

Turns out that there is mild air near the lake, but everyone inland is in the mid 30s still.

I've been bored lately and read through all of the December 2010 storm threads the past couple of days. Life was so much easier and snowier back then. :D

Sigh...

4) 21.6"...1973

Didn't feel it...but quite a few did.

WATERLOO REGION — Some residents started their New Year’s celebrations with a rumble when a 4.0 magnitude earthquake in Ohio Saturday afternoon sent ripples across the border and into Waterloo Region.

The quake struck at 3:05 p.m. near Youngstown-Warren, Ohio, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Earthquakes Canada initially reported the quake hit outside Aylmer, Ont., but later pointed to their American counterparts for information.

Torch fail. Granted we'll warm in the overnight hours, but the projected upper 40's to low 50's failed to materialize for today.

Yeah, considering the lack of snow cover this torch was pretty faggy. We've achieved 60 degree temps often shortly after melting deep snow cover. Maybe the upcoming late week torch won't disappoint lol. :lmao:

We hit 60º last year on this date...and that after having to melt 10" of snow pack. Weather is kooky.

On another note, as I said earlier, I was reading through the Dec 2010 threads...you, Hoosier, and I (along with the rest of the LAF crew and MSP peeps) were living the high life. :guitar:
