In a prolonged cold pattern starting Wednesday/Thursday... only means several Disturbances or Clippers to bring widespread accumulating snows to the region. So I don't understand why people throwing in the towel. They might be in the 1-3" variety but who cares at this point I will take a month of cold with a few 1-3" events.

I'm all in for 1-3" snows if they happen...trust me. But I'm not sure I see a "month of cold" at this point. Sure it'll get colder by the end of this week...and for a decent amount of time...but the long long range looks kinda ugly with the AK vortex returning. Hopefully the ensembles are wrong.

I guess at some point optimism meets reality. Not that I know anything really, but it (the pattern change) doesn't look as hot...no pun intended...as it once did. Oh well, I'll still hold out hope...but I'm not counting on anything.

There's a pretty sick gradient showing up in the longer ranges. Gotta think it's going to be tough to contain given the tendency of low level arctic air although the lack of snowcover may play a role.

Ha, yeah. I guess it goes to show you the potential if everything lined up perfectly. Heartbreak city for some though with that gradient.

Obviously BI's post is in jest, but if we end up having a tight baroclinic zone that sets up across the Continental US any system that would interact with this zone would have the potential to be a pretty good hitter for someone. This is not saying that anything like that P0002 image would come close to verifying, but I will take a strong baroclinic zone intersecting the US any time over what we have been having all winter.
