IWXwx
A nice, frosty morning here. FWA hourly was 25, while backyard hit 23 (avg low 18). Still above normal, but seems cool by comparison. Predictions are low 40's here today and the mildness continues through midweek. I'm still not expecting the midweek system to offer any winter-like weather around here, other than to drop temps back down to near normal. Wash, rinse, repeat. The_Global_Warmer
Both the 12z GFS and 12z Euro dump cold air out of the arctic pretty hardcore for this time of year day 8-15.
cyclone77
Looks like we'll dip into the teens tonight. Already at 22. Good chance at achieving 50 again tomorrow, and maybe mid 50s Tuesday. This winter has been kind of boring, but at least the heating bills are a hell of a lot lower than usual lol.

SpartyOn
OT Some couple from Portland OR moved next door to me. Lol. I got the feeling they think we (locals) are sissys for saying how tuff the winter would be. They other day I shouted out a friendly "this nice weather is pure luck"

But yeah the heating bills will be much easier to take...so we got that going for us, which is nice.

Chicago WX
To me it almost still feels like November since winter has yet to start in these parts lol. We've had winter here...all 5.8" of it. Really though, I woke up this morning, saw the thick frost and thought good...my tee time is probably delayed. Speaking of golf, I saw an article on the local TV site about how this is the first time ever that people have been able to play golf in Indiana in January. Like we're in the arctic circle here. January 2006 and 2007 people.

Chicago WX
Of course, not to give anything away...but not too many times the -40C isotherm makes an appearance on the map.
cyclone77
Of course, not to give anything away...but not too many times the -40C isotherm makes an appearance on the map. Very impressive. What's interesting is we achieved much colder temps here with a less impressive setup in '09. On the morning of Jan 16, 2009 we bottomed out at -33 here at the house. IIRC Sterling/Rock Falls hit -36.

Looks like the -33º at Mount Carroll that morning was considered/recognized the coldest that day. =IL"]http://www.ncdc.noaa.../01/16?sts[]=IL

It's only an AWOS, but still impressive.. http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KSQI/2009/1/16/DailyHistory.html
BowMeHunter
GFS showing 40's for my birthday on the 19th.. One can dream of ice fishing and suntanning in the heart of winter. Hopefully LAF and Toronto get snow next week and MKE is left sucking tailpipe fumes behind them the rest of winter.

Chicago WX
lol, punting? Well no, as I think I'll win the LAF/Toronto part of the bet...but not feeling so good about the MKE and LSE getting to 20" part. I guess I'm not seeing "a lot" of snow for anyone. I've finally relented. Golf courses are opening here...I saw flies flying around the other day...spring has sprung.

Chicago WX
didn't take long I guess at some point optimism meets reality. Not that I know anything really, but it (the pattern change) doesn't look as hot...no pun intended...as it once did. Oh well, I'll still hold out hope...but I'm not counting on anything. In a prolonged cold pattern starting Wednesday/Thursday... only means several Disturbances or Clippers to bring widespread accumulating snows to the region. So I don't understand why people throwing in the towel. They might be in the 1-3" variety but who cares at this point I will take a month of cold with a few 1-3" events.
