Nice. Even though we didn't receive much accumulation, it was sure uplifting seeing snow falling again the last few days. :snowing:

Definitely agree. On other the hand, looks like it's gonna be awhile until I see flakes again. But, better to have loved and lost...

Wonder if all this snow (not) will allow ChiTown to fix their roads?

"The tally on Chicago's rutted streets and alleys is in, and it's a record: Crews filled more than 600,000 potholes in 2011, or about 25 percent more than in 2010, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation.

In a city notorious for aging asphalt and unpredictable winters, 2012 threatens to ring in thousands more pavement craters, despite plans for an aggressive street-resurfacing program aimed at staying on top of the problem."

Increasingly, we are having trouble keeping up with basic maintenance. We'll need to start designating residential streets as unsuitable for larger vehicles, or surfacing with something other than asphalt.

The roads around here are horrible. The past few winters have been really bad (snowplows are rough on roads) and nothing ever gets fixed :( Probably have to buy a H2.

I was out running some errands, and for about 5 minutes or so it was, dare I say, ripping pretty good.

It was slick over here this morning! I almost took out a stoplight, forgot how to drive on the snow. Usually have a few good practices in by now.

Craig for Omaha got a new blog page? That map is horrible. I see no hope for any snow in the next 2 weeks. Its going to be mid 40fs in a few days.

I doubt either La Crosse or MKE hits 20" this winter.. If things break right and you get a few late season storms I could maybe see 25" for the season out by you. If and when the pattern flips we'll be looking at seasonably cold and dry while the eastern lakes and south gets theirs. I'd rather the pattern stay like the pile of **** it is now than have no chance with too much blocking or a ****ty positioned trough.

Well if anything the idea of a pattern change by Weathercentre might be correct. A PNA+ would help funnel the chill into the region. They mentioned how these ridges are breaking down or displacing the Vortex. Which somewhat makes sense. One thing Im questioning though is pineapple express theory.

I'll bet you $50 of Hoosier's money that LSE and MKE both break 20". There is no Atlantic blocking (-NAO) for the foreseeable future... and even when that AK vortex implodes, the cold will seep into the west and northern Plains with the SE ridge alive and well. Not to mention a neutral or negative PNA...that isn't a eastern Lakes or southern Midwest favorable pattern. I'd much rather be north and west than south and east. But we'll see.

Yeah I would agree with this, I'd actually like a little bit of blocking in the Atlantic so storms don't slice to the left and we get rain here.

Note that it says starting mid-January. At least one person checked out the site instead of just making knee-jerk comments. Kudos to Sparty-on.

To others: Rock on you snowless hopeless ones..

Well I don't think it's complete doom and gloom for us, but I still think when (IF) the pattern changes, it'll favor the western/northern areas of the region. We'll have to wait for the dips/blocking to have our fun. Who knows though? We have to get to the new pattern first to see how it orients itself.

Yeah I could see that kind of pattern setting up. I can't see a deep trough forming in the east without strong blocking over Greenland.

Chilly now, down to 16°.

I'll bet 20 bucks to this first taker that mke and lacrosse both don't finish above 20" and another 20 that laf and toronto both get more snow than mke the rest of the winter.

You're on big shot. I'll only bet the $20 on MKE and LSE not getting above 20" though. Not sure about the Toronto part with the second one.
