Sampson
What is this "snow" you speak of, and can its power be harnessed for the fight against evildoers?
SeanVA
You may know this but skiers call it surface hoar. Surface hoar makes for dangerous avalanche conditions when it gets covered by fresh snow because it prevents the layers from bonding.
Chinook
Yes, actually it is hoarfrost. To me, hoarfrost just means that the crystallization of frost is much larger than normal. In this case, frost crystallized on snow, and that particular portion sat in the shade all the time, and the surface didn't get melted by the sunlight. I think the different versions of ice crystals to be fascinating. Microscopic ice, snow(of different shapes,), diamond dust (tiny snowflakes) graupel, sleet, frost, hoarfrost, rime ice, hail, giant hail, sea ice, ice on your sidewalk, snow that is so old that it has turned gray and black...(that's the yucky part,) glacial ice. They say ice has 9 crystal forms.
