Was 00 in Staunton the Superbowl storm?? I know you didn't get the Jan 25 storm as a foot there?

I think so. Maybe it was 12/99. I don't remember exactly. Was supposed to stop snowing early evening but didn't. Woke up to a surprise foot on the ground.

1/25/00 was the day I had 6" at my house in Fishersville but 1 mile to my west on the other side of the ridge only measured .75".

That was a very similar storm to 12/5/09 for the DC area in terms of temps, daytime timing of the heaviest burst on Sunday, and accumulation gradient from DCA out through the suburbs. The backside for us was a 1-3" burst Monday that caused last-minute school closings in the morning, even though the snow had already melted from roads in the eastern suburbs when the decisions were made.

I took "locally" in the title to mean only the mid-atlantic, but far be it from me to post more snowfall stats ;)

10+" from my locations in MN/ND 1986-2004 (lived in CA for a while prior - no snow there, don't remember anything from pre-82 or so, so I don't count it)

Jan 20-21, 1988 - 13.0"

Mar 3-4, 1989 - 10.5"

Oct 31-Nov 1, 1991 - 20.9" - my other 20" storm

Mar 9-10, 1992 - 10.2"

Nov 18-19, 1998 - 12.9"

Mar 8-9, 1999 - 13.0"

Oct 24-25, 2001 - 10.9"
