Bucket list item for sure. Boys cryin for their Mommas, we got 14 inches in March in this parts. I love that MWR link, http://journals.amet...g/toc/mwre/62/2

great historical reference

Mt. Washington onbly got to -46.5F in Jan of that year...lol

I have a book about my town history that claims a temp of less than -40F during Feb 1934... I think that was a little off.

Lowest I ever saw here was -18F in Jan 2004

ABC 40 in Springfield has a year in weather special on right now with Ed Carrol and they are talking about how last year there was no snow in Springfield until Dec 26th but there was 62" between then and first week of February! We had a little less than that up here during that period but ended the year with 80" in Greenfield so hope springs eternal for this year.

6z GFS has a cutter for the weekend. Unfortunately the most likely scenario is cutter or cold, dry, suppressed storm track.

Either way... boring.

The euro had a major cutter at 240 at 12z that vanished. As far as this weekend..it's always been a lost cause but the advertised torch has been reduced.

Agree with your analysis. However, a sobering thought -- if the latest runs of the Euro and GFS reflect the long awaited "pattern change" as some are suggesting, then they can have good luck with that. Alternating bouts of cold (mostly seasonal cold at that), mild, rain, perhaps snow, and more rain is what they show. Not the blowtorch December for sure. But nothing, and I mean nothing, to write home about.

LOL ...look at the 12Z GFS for next weekend now. If it wasn't so sad it would almost be funny. Out went the idea we might set up a gradient flow and a ssw event ...and on the new run it just phases things west of us and drives another lovely rainy cutter into the lakes. Yeah it will get cold again after that.

I don't know where to begin with this post

What 12z GFS are you looking at? It's not what you described, that's for sure

Any snowcover up there Gene? Barren muck here....

Rick, there is no snow at all at my elevation of 1100 feet. Down in the protected valley at the bottom of my hill there is like 1" in the shaded areas. My friends went up to Lincoln yesterday and said there was a bit more, perhaps a couple of inches but that is all. The Southern Whites are basically bare or thinly snow covered. I see Coles Pond webcam in Vermont at 2000 feet has 5" but Nashville VT webcam has only an 1-2". Unless you are near the spine of the Vermont mountains it is bare or very thinly snow covered. Weird for Jan 1!

Have a great 2012!

Gene
