Wonderdog
Would it take much of a change in Tuesday's storm to track up closer to the coast instead of how it's now depicted to give us a cold rain in the upper 30's instead of highs in the upper 40's? Wonderdog
We may need to end up luckier since the pattern is way worse than last years at this time. Luck has nothing to do with it.
usedtobe
Luck has nothing to do with it. Yes it does, always and when the pattern is poor then you need even more luck.
jonjon
I can live with the 6z GFS. Some snow and not too warm. We really NEED the snow out here. Ski resorts struggling to get slopes open.

I'd say consistent cold is the bigger issue. Everytime they get the snow base growing it warms up and rains.

We also need some natural snowcover for our cross country skiing which has really taken a hit.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!! A West Coast trough is absent and if the Atlantic pattern is some sort of (-)NAO, it is quite east-based. Perhaps a pattern favorable for Quebec and/or step down. I am a regular follower (and sometimes X-country skier) at white grass website, hate to see them getting off to a poor start this year but they are not alone. The trails are awesome at white grass and a great place to get in shape and have some down hill powder skiing totally alone.

wxmeddler
Watch the media go nuts on this like they did the "one run wonder" from the euro on the 20th for today. Hopefully, they learned their lesson for now though.

WxUSAF
18z GFS is not too shabby either. Both Euro and the GFS seem very keyed on at least a good cold shot on ~2 Jan. First day or two with highs below freezing perhaps. Snow would be a welcome bonus.

I remember some periods with three wave patterns with one of them -- the third?-- tending to be a good snowstorm. I'm not sure it's a real thing tho or just coincidence. Looks like it worked since we know at least 1 person read it. Now I feel like the cartoon character who just turned into the sucker lollipop.
