12Z Euro has some blocking over the Pole showing up on days 9-10

p.s. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!

A West Coast trough is absent and if the Atlantic pattern is

some sort of (-)NAO, it is quite east-based.

Perhaps a pattern favorable for Quebec and/or step down.

We also need some natural snowcover for our cross country skiing which has really taken a hit.

Yes very true. I am a regular follower (and sometimes X-country skier) at white grass website,

hate to see them getting off to a poor start this year but they are not alone.

The trails are awesome at white grass and a great place to get in shape and have some down hill powder skiing totally alone.

18z GFS is not too shabby either. Both Euro and the GFS seem very keyed on at least a good cold shot on ~2 Jan. First day or two with highs below freezing perhaps. Snow would be a welcome bonus.

What is a "monster 3 wave pattern?" just curious as I never heard that mentioned here before. JB tweeted it. Merry Xmas!

Without context, my best guess would be something he made up to sound mongerish and attract views to his blog.

I remember some periods with three wave patterns with one of them -- the third?-- tending to be a good snowstorm. I'm not sure it's a real thing tho or just coincidence.

Got it. Looks like it worked since we know at least 1 person read it. Now I feel like the cartoon character who just turned into the sucker lollipop.

By the end of January we might be begging for it to stop snowing

Wow, I go to a friends for xmas dinner and everyone here gets giddy. The euro ens mean doesn't support the operational that well though some members might (I don't see them). I looked for the negative noa and didn't see one, only a positive nao. The good thing about the model run is it does show a positive pna but we'll see if it lasts.
