Powerball
Since the pattern is so boring in the interim, I decided to do a little research myself. Since this may be Detroit's wettest year on record, I decided to look at the previous wettest years on record and see how their succeeding winters turned out. Bottom line, there isn't any noticable correlation based JUST on this information. In fact averaging all the seasonal totals (and factoring in the temperatures for the 3 pre-1880 seasons) for every season listed brought Detroit's snowfall to right around average to maybe slightly above. So I may dig further into the indices for each season to see if I can come up with better correlations. 1. 1880 = 47.69" = 93.6" of snow for 1880-1881 winter (snowiest on record) 2. 1881 = 45.44" = 15.1" of snow for 1881-1882 winter (3rd least snowiest on record) 3. 1878 = 43.40" = No snowfall record, but average temp of 21.5*F for 1978-1879 winter (11th coldest on record) 4. 1990 = 42.64" = 31.4' of snow for 1990-1991 winter 5. 2000 = 42.18" = 39" of snow for 2000-2001 winter 6. 1959= 40.80" = 47.7" of snow for 1959-1960 winter 7. 1909 = 40.65" = 46.8" of snow for winter of 1909-1910 winter 8. 1876 = 40.40" = No snowfall record, but average temperature of 23.2*F for 1876-1877 winter (18th coldest on record) 9. 1985 = 40.08" = 54.2' of snow for 1985-1986 winter 10. 1957= 39.82" = 18.0" of snow for 1957-1958 (9th least snowiest winter on record) 11. 1950 = 39.46" = 42.2" of snow for 1950-1951 winter 12. 1926 = 39.26" = 47.5" of snow for 1926-1927 winter 13. 2006 = 39.24" = 30.3" of snow for 2006-2007 winter 14. 1987 = 38.28" = 45.1" of snow for 1987-1988 winter 15. 1932 = 38.08" = 25.9" of snow for 1932-1933 winter 16. 1951 = 37.78" = 58.6" of snow for 1951-1952 winter (18th snowiest on record) 17. 1983 = 37.65" = 51.8" of snow for 1983-1984 winter 18. 1986 = 37.61" = 49.7" of snow for 1986-1987 winter 19. 1879 = 37.45" = No snowfall record, but average temp of 32.5 for winter 1879-1880 (7th warmest on record) 20. 1925 = 37.35" = 78.9" of snow for 1925-1926 winter (2nd snowiest on record)
Powerball
Interestingly enough, all of the winters except 3 were all El Ninos or Neutral. 1. 1880 = El Nino 2. 1881 = Neutral 3. 1878 = Neutral 4. 1990 = Neutral 5. 2000 = La Nina 6. 1959 = Neutral 7. 1909 = La Nina 8. 1876 = Neutral 9. 1985 = Neutral 10. 1957 = El Nino 11. 1950 = La Nina 12. 1926 = Neutral 13. 2006 = El Nino 14. 1987 = Neutral 15. 1932 = El Nino 16. 1951 = El Nino 17. 1983 = Neutral 18. 1986 = El Nino 19. 1879 = El Nino 20. 1925 = El Nino
