If the mid Cape were about 5-8 miles further north, it would have been probably 4". OES can do weird things, but congrats on the wintry look.

They are often at the whim of some of the low level winds and convergence...there isn't a natural funneling like there is with the lakes...the land is not on both sides to help funnel the low level winds, so you end up with some goofy looking stuff every now and then.

The winds at 85mb we a little goofy this time around..if everything had been a little more well aligned, I think the bands might have been a bit more intense. But that said, there is some decent stuff over CC Bay.

They were pretty formidable over CC Bay, but the southern end of the bands didn't really want to go much further south than the beaches of the north side. But yeah, if the 850 winds stayed ne a little longer it probably would have been a little more organized and likely extended further west. It didn't look classic all along, but instability was there which is the biggest thing. If there were an island east of PYM..they probably would have had several inches..lol. Congrats to the humback whales.

the heaviest oes i drove into last night was actually along rt 3 south...stopped at the exit 5 mcdonalds to use the wifi to look at the radar...at first it was a graupel attack, but then it eventually transitioned into the more traditional snowflake type stuff...drove down to exit 4...got off and went to the beach...then continued on 3a south and went over the bridage...drove a couple miles on 6east, turned around and drove back on 6west, to 25 to 495...for the most part, the temp was above freezing...a lot of 33 and 34...in the area where 6west transitions to 25 the snow picked up and the temp dropped to 31...but mostly we just saw crap...got back to my house at 4am, clear skies and 22 degrees...

oh well, i did see snow and the ocean so that was nice...but no banding, hardly any accumulating...

that was the biggest culprit i think. they are only truly N or NE for a short time and not very strong either. the winds in the 925 to 875 layer were/are stronger and more NNE but that 850 to 800 layer was not ideal..and almost westerly at times so both shearing it out and not allowing it to really get going.

nice band now that everything is lining up briefly NNE

That area in Manomet...right where it sticks out into CC Bay, north of Messenger might have an inch or two.

that's where my sister lives...hit up that area...it was 33-34 degrees at 3am...the snow was intermittent..boundary layer was too warm to stick...at that time...

I bet if the snow rates were better at that time, it probably would have cooled to 31 or 32. It's a good band right now where winds are still NNE out in the bay while near the coast they are NNW. That's the band I envisioned developing... albeit earlier than now.

well dang it, had i just went to bed like a a normal person...i could have met my sister for breakfast this morning and would have ended up seeing better oes than i did while i was driving around like an idiot at all hrs of the dark morning

The quirky winds are visible even on radar. Notice how those echoes down along the south coast are staying put or drifting ne. They aren't directly there because of the water below them....winds are nw. However, the echoes that moved down there earlier are staying put as 850 winds are now sw and there is probably some very light warm air advection down there.

Very impressive burst here now. This is probably it but it's really nice to see snow blowing off the roof. With the wind it actually feels like a winter storm
