wisconsinwx
Hopefully Milwaukee will get there first inch tonight/morning! Partial clearing closer to the IL/WI has aided in dropping temps. I wish I could be positive about things, but taking a page from Bowme, I'd say no way. Unless temps drop under rapidly clouding conditions, and they might, it will not happen. It looks like the band is setting up to our northwest. Hopefully it slowly sneaks its way SE as it continues to organize.

MKE needs 0.1" to get to 1" for the season. Can they do it?

Snow has begun to mix in, just as we dropped below 34 °F. We're at a 50/50 mix now, with the snow type being dendrites. That's a good sign. cyclone77
Enjoy! Hopefully I can at least see some flakes tomorrow.. Yeah looks like we should see a few periods of light snow over northern Illinois tomorrow. Don't know about anything sticking, but a few periods of snowfall will be nice to see either way. Savor every minute of it, for given this pattern, we don't know when our active snow period will come this winter, if it comes.

Indeed, even though it's a rain/snow mix at this point I'm spending most of my time standing outside in it. It's just nice to see the flakes coming down. Down to 33.5 °F, won't be long now until it starts accumulating. There are higher reflectivity echoes on the way.

Can they do it? already over 1" (1.1 lol) Normal for the season so far is 9.4" Tonight's GFS gives us nothing and a torch for the whole run Before we know it it will be mid January and time to start thinking about rooting on the least snowiest winter if nothing has changed
turtlehurricane
No accumulation as of 2 am, precip has been waxing and waning, and the temp has gone down and up accordingly resulting in various levels of a rain/snow mix. A nice band is on track to hit Madison, I'm hoping it begins a nice long period of accumulating snow. Most locales across southern Wisconsin are at or approaching freezing, even Milwaukee. nwohweather
Toledo, OH has now officially set the rainfall record at 48" for the year. It feels like Seattle with all the grey days we've had
turtlehurricane
It just went below freezing, all snow. Very fine snow right now, plates and needles, indicating sub-optimal snow growth conditions. No accumulation yet, but since everything is coated with water outside and it's below freezing things are gonna get wintry out there.
turtlehurricane
Oh wow, just switched to moderate, wet dendritic snow. This is the good stuff.
Mogget
Maybe .25 inches of accumulation in Verona, south and west of Madison. Very pretty in the early dawn with all the Christmas lights still on.
hawkeye_wx
Once again only a couple flurries in Cedar Rapids. We're still stuck on 0.1" for the season... pretty amazing we'll likely go into January with little more than a dusting of snow.
Nelson
Measured 2.2" here in Eastern WI this morning. Nice surprise. Was only expecting an inch. Looks like we got in on a pretty narrow band of precip overnight.

Yikes, and I thought we had it bad at an inflated inch of snow this winter. Should not have any more this month, so it's about a January pattern flip right now. daddylonglegs
.3 inches here. You can still see most the grass. 2.7 inches here (most likely that will be the monthly total)... Last year...this will make your head spin and your eyes roll back...we had 32.3 inches in December. Talk about going from one extreme to the other. wisconsinwx
Anyone else notice the Euro looks interesting in the GL early Tuesday? At the very least, perhaps some fantasy fodder. Two runs ago, the Euro showed a similar area of snow a bit farther SE. Any thoughts?

snowstormcanuck
main moisture from that srn stream wave is going to stay south of Lk Erie but there's some indication that an F-GEN band might try and setup along the polar front in an area of enhanced convergence. Hopefully thermals by that time are cold enough to support snow, but it's marginal.
