Chicago WX
+NAO/+EPO continue through the period too....Mid-January will be here before you know it. Late January it is then. Your entirely too excited though. I think I'll have to make future plans to troll the severe weather season.

Chicago WX
Sun angle effects start becoming noticeable by February. Overrated. Plus this isn't a snow cover winter anymore. Circle the wagons. It'll be awesome though when it's in the upper 30's on Easter. I can play this game too. Bump troll if needed.

Hoosier
That happens in mid January here. Well, you know what I mean. Snow starts melting easier during the day even if it's well below freezing.
Chicago WX
Well, you know what I mean. Snow starts melting easier during the day even if it's well below freezing. Sure. But that's the breaks of February snow here. Remember how the Feb 2007 clipper snow all but melted before V-Day hit? Granted it was low water content snow... Chicago WX
50.06" of precipitation for the year...boo yah. Even if having to use the WL COOP for May makes it "unofficial"...the COOP itself was only 2.41" away entering December. It should be AOA 50" now too. weatherpsycho
It was my second best storm I have ever witnessed right behind the 16 day miracle of 1999. Where u located? At the time of that storm, I was living in Central Macomb County (near Lakeside mall area). I have seen some spectacular storms but I will say this is one of my favorite surprise storms. It saved that frustrating winter of 95-96 IMBY.
beavis1729
Some painful stats through 12/19... The numbers are, from left to right: (1) Nov/Dec temp departure vs. 1981-2010 normals (it would be even greater departures if using 1971-2000 normals) (2) Seasonal snowfall (3) % of normal snowfall season-to-date SSM: +4.3F, 12.0", 30% Marquette: +2.8F, 37.3", 66% Alpena: +4.1F, 1.0", 5% MSN: +5.3F, 1.0", 11% Green Bay: +5.2F, 2.2", 18% Chicago (ORD): +5.5F, 1.7", 26% Grand Forks: +6.1F, 1.4", 8% Bismarck: +2.7F, 2.6", 15% MSP: +5.2F, 8.2", 45% DLH: +4.3F, 7.1", 26% INL: +4.3F, 14.6", 57%

weatherpsycho
This pattern is such crap. We can't even thread the needle. It was like November 1st came and old man winter surrendered without even putting up a fight. I don't think he even showed up.
daddylonglegs
We haven't had winter yet...at least in my book. When the snow is down (more then an inch) and the nights drop below 0F...then its winter. Right on the edge of the clouds today...clear blue skies to the north and clouds to the south...the divider is almost over my head..hazy sunshine. This takes us through the first few days of January:

Tropical
So much for winter this year. Thought it was supposed to be a banner year, yet again? I saw the writing on the wall back in October. I'm gonna go make myself a cocktail and enjoy the warmth ...

This takes us through the first few days of January: I love long range forecasts as they are fun to read. I know that is only a small snapshot in time but WOW that is opposite of most long range forecasts. This December has turned out to be a major humbling by mother nature. I guess it could be worse where it could be COLD and dry (complete suppression) with little winds for any LES. Though if it were could the slops could make snow for downhill skiing. Stevo6899
I wonder how many people on this board would murder for a foot of snow. Garden city and lansing only 2 places, outside of the mountains, to receive 8+ inches in one event. There was that new england storm that dumped 25 inches of cement back in October but that's it. Nuts.
beavis1729
I wonder how many people on this board would murder for a foot of snow. Have you ever been passionate about anything? Like a sports team, for example? Of course it's the internet and it's difficult to read too much into words on a screen...but your recent posts make it seem like it's ridiculous to hope for anything in life. Most folks on this board are snow-lovers, and we hope that it snows. It's very simple. Imagine a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan...even though it's likely they won't win the World Series in a given year, die-hard Cubs fans still hope for it...it's human nature. snowstormcanuck
EURO spins up a nice little compact snowstorm for areas to my SE. Yeah, to my SE. In this pattern. No blocking. And if it happens it'll be the third time so far this winter. In this pattern. To my SE. let the descent into catatonia begin.
