Terrible for the ski sites. But. This pattern will rubber band back to another extreme. It can't last forever and the fears of a "JFM Torch" are a little premature IMO. Ill say it again. Winter will come and you guys will get your snow and death troughs. Had a old grandfather tell me that mother nature always makes you pay your dues when she is nice to you. Old school forecasting!

Not concerned one bit..in fact im going to get my new snowboard tomorrow!

I agree wholeheartedly with the "rubber band theory." Of course three Chicago winters with in excess of 50 inches of snow(first time historically this has occurred.I think) and the great GHD storm and we are feeling the effects of that theory around these parts. With that said, by hook or crook Chicago area always ekes out at least 30-35 inches to be on the optimistic side. Also, can remember winter of 1984/1985 not a stitch of snow through December. Then a storm hit NYears Eve and we encountered 3-5 weeks of intense winter to the point roofs had to be shoveled. So while we maybe seeing Mother Nature evening out some for the past recent great winters it will indeed snow as witnessed by today's dusting around these parts. Something which was not even on anyone's radar just 48 hours ago.

Not sure what to think, but remaining optimistic. Long range predictions regarding temps, precip, etc, are not very encouraging. Showing above normal temps for the 6 to 10, and 8 to 14 day outlooks, along with the 30 day outlook as well.

Still, I am sure we will get winter. It looks like the the hype of a huge snowy and cold winter may have been premature, but then, it's only mid December, with lots to go yet.

So CLE will get their first inch today December 17, which ties for second latest first inch. Still a very nice treat going on right now without any advisories. With a little lake enhancement, I see no reason we won't get over 5" by morning. Nothing like a good bust, especially when the next two weeks doesn't look so hot.

Received about 2-2.5" IMBY. Sadly, I was in a hospital room recovering from gallbladder surgery and could not enjoy it. Does it make me a bad person that I hit the call light to have the nurse come in and open my window blinds simply so I could watch it snow?

That's dedication right there, sprinkled in with some weather weenie-ness.

Hope the surgery went well and the recovery is quick. :)

With today's 1.2", ORD moves out of the top 10 least snowiest Decembers (combined with the 0.5" from earlier in the month, the total now stands at 1.7").

1) T - 1889 and 1912

2) 0.1" - 1943

3) 0.3" - 1906 and 1971

4) 0.4" - 1986

5) 0.5" - 1939

6) 0.6" - 2004

7) 0.8" - 1936

8) 1.0" - 1998

9) 1.2" - 1993

10) 1.3" - 1896

13) 1.7" - 2011
