SBUWX23
I wouldnt get too excited about the Xmas storm. never like seeing a parent low over the Lakes come in like this, and with an unfavorable pattern even if it transfers to the coast and develops there will be alot of rain on peoples snow fantasies and by the time cold air gets in, its too late. GGEM and GFS are cold for Christmas and boxing day with a little snow from the northern stream. No one is having snow fantasies.

MJO812
Temps in the lowest levels are too warm per Bufkit soundings. Yep. Maybe we can some sleet out of it. It looks like the Euro is about to show nothing for Sunday night.

MJO812
Cold Christmas on the Euro The 12z Euro now phases the storm well east of Nantucket. Last run it had it in Nova Scotia. Well south of the previous run.

Alpha5
NAO If you look at the GFS at H5, you can see around hr 100 it really tries to push a ridge up the eastern side of greenland and actually displaces the vortex slightly to the SW of where it is now. The feature is only temporary but hints at greater blocking potential down the road

There was a similar pattern and resultant developing system to this in January of 1992 I believe, the models back then went nuts with it forecasting about a foot of snow area wide, as it turned out we saw zip, but eastern LI and SNE did quite well, given what occurred in that setup and the models hinting at that area in some cases I'd say you'll have to be way east for this one. ag3
If the 12z euro is correct, you can kiss the next 2-3 weeks goodbye. Hopefully the rest of the model suite is correct.

blizzardof09
The Euro weeklies have been doing good in this pattern. yea i know that but what i was trying to say is some wholesale changes to get some more favorable conditions condustive to getting east coast cyclogenesis with some cold air all the way to the coast for once. i heard that news years or there after we may have a chance at that but we'll see because we are off to a lousy start to this winter lol

JCsnow17
The next several days are going to be huge for the gfs. First leading the way with the tonight - tomorrow storm ( no weenie solutions ala euro, nam) and possibly the same with mondays storm. Of course we could be fooling ourselves in thinking the gfs has a clue with the latter storm.
Neblizzard
Getting there, we need that AK vortex to retrograde more, that would build a more substantial west coast ridge...
