ski MRG
If it's clear black ice you can drive a small car out on 4". I grew up pond fishing with my family and they would fish once it was over 3" of black and the kids could go once it was over 4". White honey comb I would want 6"+. I've been ice fishing since I was a kid. The old timers always said fishing was best on first ice. I've been out when it's been a bit sketchy. Being older and wiser now I prefer to wait, all it takes is one place where there is a spring and the ice is burned from the underside. That said, those guys are regulars, they know the lake well. Mr Torchey
Today comes in -3 to -4 bdl and orh only a -1, considering how cold it was last night simply incredible, mega torch continues well into the evening hours, a normal high today would have yielded very impressive negative departures. The Bass and Pike can see those shiners better in the sunlight. lol First day out or on a new pond and I'm usually chiseling (yup no auger here) quite a few test holes. I've got plenty o' gear, we should go sometime after New Year. I don't really know many places out this way yet. I grew up ice fishing the ponds on C.C. I was thrilled to see your picture, can't have snow I at least want ice. 35/28 imby. We need sustained nights in the teens to get the ponds firmed up. CoastalWx
36/31 at Massena NY, where is this cooldown coming from tomorrow? Nice avatar. It's further north then Massena currently, but it's not like it will be highs in the 20s.
ORH_wxman
36/31 at Massena NY, where is this cooldown coming from tomorrow? NW of them...its in the teens in Ontario there. I don't think the cooldown will be that impressive and we torch again mid week...but at least there is a legit snow threat to track for some of the area. Fortunatley, it's been cooling since then (had 40.8 here at 12:30a.m.). Currently at 33.3/24. Acutally taking an "official look" at MP3 on Thursday. If (big if) we get it, I'll be sure to set up a station there to give 1800' readings.

MP1 was our house in Maine. While it was 60 years younger than our current house, it had several more major things that we neeed to tackle than MP2. We are not looking to move, but might be picking this up for poorly though reasoning. We can have gtg at it during elevation events. lol 31.5/23 Edit: just noticed from you post how you didn't warm up last night--congratulations! It must have some thing to do with this neighborhood. mby will be 5 degrees colder than downtown or some of the other Gfld Wunderground readings. I think the frozen beaver pond out back and the hills directly behind the house helps with radiating and holding the cold. Where is MP3 located? 1800' sounds like Heath or Colrain. Ding ding ding----we have a winner! WRT your temps, I know you are much better than the downtown. Frequently, I take Brook RD into town. You're pretty close to where that intersects Colrain Rd, right? Great area of town. 31.2/

moneypitmike
Nh to get a car ill be back through later If you're heading back to nw ct and have time, you should hop on rt 2 west into gc. You xan then work your way south on rt 8. Long drive that way, but a pretty one. 31.9/
