Sparky
The HRRR shows Parr's Ridge and its inherent higher snow totals really nicely. Actually, it seems like it does an excellent job with elevation as a whole. Does make me wonder.

They are easily getting rates of 2 inches/hour right now. BethesdaWX
Dunno if it's kts or mph but the NAM brings through sustained winds of 25 (kts or mph) with higher gusts during the changeover and thumping. Could still be a cool sight to see even if we get no accumulation.
NoVaWx
48 here and a few miles west in leesburg it's 46. Drop started when the winds picked up. Nothing drastic, if it was snowing now in Winchester I could say that we had hope, but looks to change over there in a few hours as expected. I think people are going to be pleased with how it looks when it does finally snow, even knowing that accumulations will be about nil.

snowdude
Woops! Veronica Johnson on NBC4 in DC just said a Winter Storm Watch is up for a majority of our northern and western counties. She even had a graphic that had it written all over. Oh well...guess this is an example of the "well, the majority of the public still doesn't know the difference between all the advisories and warnings, so i guess it doesn't matter." LOL. I'm shocked she made that mistake.

nj2va
Someone said we'd be 47 degrees by 5pm. Scratch that. Temps holding tough in the 50s - warm air will be hard to scour out until about 9am Thursday when the CAA starts kicking ass under strong sunshine with dry air. I think we finally fall into the upper 40s by about 10 pm tonight. Didn't you also say the precip will be out of here by noon today?

usedtobe
the NAM is flying....once the vort passes, precip cuts off...and there is really no lag time between the 850 low and the 500mb vort....i think most of us are screwed unless there are some amazing dynamics and convective snow.....I think the question is once it changes over if we get a deform band to form somewhere to the west/nw and swing through...but even then unless there are sick dynamics, it would probably be a cartopper at best...there is no precip left to work with..and while I realize dynamics could trump everything, I am not terribly jazzed that it is 55 and pouring 6-8 hours out from this "event" I agree, I haven't been very impressed and with the low coming so close the crappy 850 low track cold advection will be fighting vorticity advection as the temps drop. That's not a great combo. I like what I said on CWG this morning. I just don't see how we can get even car top snow very easily in the district. To me this is a worse set up than in October. I'll be happy to get a few flakes and think where I live that might be tough to come by.

Even before internet, I remember as a kid calling 4109361212 to get the forecasts or listening to my dinky weather radio. And then came internet. There was a lot more energy hanging back in October.....12 hours from now, the back edge of this thing will be in Lowell, Mass.....the window of opportunity is so small.....I don't see me or you going much below 35-36 either....how exactly is this supposed to stick?...hopefully there will be a wintry scene for a bit...snow flying might be the best we can hope for

MN Transplant
Daily precip record for any day in December is 2.81" on Dec 18th, 1977. DCA is at 1.92" as of 4pm. Game on. Edit - jan/feb records are lower. So, we are in the running for the wettest wintertime day on record in DC.

Jebman
Impressive mild air in northern VA at 440pm still in the low 50s with a north breeze Heavy rain - coming up on 4 inches' worth of rain since Tuesday Lot more heavy rain on the way - The Flood Warning is definitely justified Enjoy the heavy snows in the mountains and MUCH farther north and west
blackngoldrules
I'm in the southern suburbs of Pittsburgh right now and we've picked up about a coating where I'm at.
