Stormlover74
If you go back into the archives around this time a year ago there was alot of the same winter cancel/no pattern change type of talk...and that wasn't even in the banter threads. I'm not comparing the two because last year held more promise at this time, but the long range models have been doing so bad I wouldn't be surprised if a week from now things looked much different. Also there was still the myth that a KU type storm couldn't happen in a strong nina, because one hadn't occurred before and then we proceeded to have 3 of them (counting the mid January New England monster)
Snow_Miser
I often look at these pictures that I have saved in terrible patterns like the one we are currently experiencing right now.

NYCSuburbs
I clicked on the link to the thread and found myself staring at these pictures for the last 15 minutes or so, they're definitely nicer to look at than any recent model. At least we now have some good pictures to look at while it'll be 50 and raining outside...

NYCSuburbs
Thought I'd post some of my saved images from last December as well: This image is from a model verification experiment I did last fall, where I kept track of the pressures/850mb temps from almost every NAM, GFS, ECM and CMC run from October to 12/26:
Chris L
THat snow map is spot on. 28" of snow in Union, NJ. Ahh, Memories.
jm1220
Just seeing the ginormous piles of snow and up to 2 foot snow cover that lasted for weeks, even down to Long Island, is just obscene for this area. That's something you would expect for the Catskills or Adirondacks. Last winter was just ridiculous for that 5 week period from Christmas to Feb 1. Over 50" of snow everywhere in that timeframe. That's an average of nearly 1 foot a week!!
ict1523
I still can't beileve how epic that December storm was. Remember walking out during the height of it and it was just unbelieveable. And the chaos that ensued in the city afterwards was unforgettable as well. It'll be a long time till we relive that. Time to move to Montreal.
