hit 26 this am. both mornings of dec. are the coldest so far this season not bad in all this warmth talk :(

I was a bit cooler than you: 24.9 last night. First night with a 24 spot.

Is it just me or are our nights running a few degrees colder than the last few years? I don't know if it's just that I'm paying more attention because I'm still trying to grow some vegetables or what, but it just seems that way to me.

No way, the lowest temp of the season so far at RIC is only 28F. Looks like only 3 days of subfreezing temps for November while the average is 7 days for the 1981-2010 period of record.

12z euro develops a second low off of some S/W energy to our south 850's are -3c at hr 120 12z on the 8th with surface temps in the mid 30's with ~0.30" qpf looks like maybe rain to snow

the models have been hinting at this S/W for several runs now atleast it's something to watch and it does hit at night

I run SIGNIFICANTLY colder than the airport. I sit with hills sheltering me almost 360 degrees around.

Last night, I was 6 degrees colder than the airport.

kevin i was trying to reply to your map, but with the upgrade i had to switch to mobile skin to get my keypad to pop up and hit delete by accident. i don't even see it in the trash can maybe you can repost it that did look interesting

ROFL ... gee, thanks, Midlo! It was the 0z ECMWF snowfall from WxUnderground. I will re-post as soon as I get back to my computer upstairs (yeh, it's Sunday, I'm feeling lazy).

Yesterday's 12z and last night's 0z Euro continue to advertise the possibility of flakes falling in Central VA, which would be fantastic. In a pattern as ridiculously unfriendly for snow as this one, I'm not going to be greedy. But, I would love the chance to take photos of my Christmas decorations with flakes in the air.

From this distance, at least, it does appear as though our streak of white Christmases is going to end at 2.

Hello?... hello... hello... Echo... echo... echo... Pinch hitting for Pedro Borbon... Manny Mota... Mota... Mota...

64 MPH wind gust @ RIC. I almost made a comment earlier that it was looking Irene-like out there for awhile. Apparently that wouldn't have been a stretch.

I had to run an errand this evening about 6:45. Driving east on Cary Street from the Huguenot Bridge, the wind came up like mad. I drove in Isabel, and I drove in Irene, and I was never scared the way I was scared driving tonight. My car was hit by three separate branches, and a transformer blew about 20' from my car. At one point it was so bad I wondered if I needed to be worried about a tornado. When I got home, my power was out. In the 20 minutes I was gone, the temp dropped from 64 to 52.

the cherokee rd area was hit hard. numerous roads were closed, power lines down everywhere. the entire ridge line on the south side of the river seemed to have the most trees down from old rd to huguenot bridge. these same places got hit very hard during irene and isabell. the elevation is pretty much a straight drop off from the hill tops to the river leaving alot of steep vertical exposure to the land. thats my guess as to why it always seems like they get pounded there
