SnowGoose69
The OK/TX snow event on Monday is not the best sign statistically for this region as far as La Nina winters go. When those places have seen significant snow events during La Nina winters between December and February the vast majority of those winters have tended to be dry and mild in the Northeast. A few years where this occurred 1988-89, 2001-2002 (closer to neutral), 1999-2000. Interestingly enough it did occur last winter however, and that worked out pretty well. WeatherX
Can someone post a nao and ao map please? Here is a great site to bookmark for NAO/AO forecasts for all Goofus runs and it even has CMC/Snogaps runs for these indices, among other really great stuff. Enjoy http://policlimate.c...scillation.html Thanks. That's a cool site. This is another great site, that might be known to many here already: http://raleighwx.ame...onnections.html Of course, the bar/line graphs, just give an overview. It's also important to look the actual model maps, to see how all these features are placed.
SnowGoose69
Now some good news, I just found this analog for 12/8/88, notice how insanely similar the 500mb pattern is to 72 hours or so from now...if you look ahead a few days brutally cold air did indeed enter the eastern U.S. http://www.meteo.psu.edu/~gadomski/NARR/1988/us1208.php

SEASON JUL AUG SEP OCT NOV DEC JAN FEB MAR APR MAY JUN TOTAL 1988-89 0 0 0 0 0 0.3 5.0 0.3 2.5 0 0 0 8.1 That was another bad luck winter for the area, it was not anywhere near as bad as the snow totals suggest other than January which blow torched. There was an unusually cold pattern for a strong La Nina in February, the coldest air was west of the East Coast but this area still averaged near ti slightly below normal, and numerous storms missed including the 2/24 one. NYCSuburbs
Does anyone know what's the best site to buy full access to the ECM? I originally planned to buy it in November before this winter's cold and snow starts, but at this rate I probably have plenty of time to buy it. Accuweather has soundings, skew t's and other neat maps, but updates about a half hour slower.

Sundog
It's the SE ridge that just doesn't want to go away on the 0z GFS. A cold front blasts through and it pops right back up 24 hours later. Frustration doesn't begin to describe how annoying I find this pattern we're in.

mattinpa
That lakes cutter on day 7-8 is causing another 2 day torch. Followed by major cold. I don't consider that quite a torch; I think torch is best used for 70 in winter or heat in the summer.
ag3
Gfs is basically, fropa next weekend, followed by average temps, then a 1-2 day above average day and then pretty damn cold days 9 and on. A couple of those days highs stay Belem freezing.
MJO812
the general concesus around here is people pretty much ignore your opinions, but we will note them down in case we run out of things to make fun of metfan about. Make fun of me as much as you want. Does not bother me at all. metfan on facebook: "DGEX Gives a lot of snow. I think it will snow. Snow is white. Rain is Cold. -NAO." I wasn't home tonight. And Anthony's fried onions. I didn't have fried onions at the gtg . I wish I traded with someones burger. The ribs were subpar. My father's would put even southern ribs to shame. You should have ate Nate's salad
mattinpa
The problem in this pattern though is that we are still getting lakes cutters or SW flow events on the GFS. Cold is nice, but I hope the snow comes eventually.
