snowNH
With my daily schedule of academics, athletics, and surgery rehab I'm not too concerned. My first semester of college at a party school, I'll take it. What's your major if you don't mind me asking?
CoastalWx
I'm getting a free education from athletics... As someone who almost had a little too much fun. Be careful. It's easy to screw around, but when you start going down that slope....it's hard to get back up. Trust me. Social life is great and I think it made me the person that I am....but just remember to hit the books. You'll be thankful of this 5 years from now. MacChump
I'll fix it I promise. To my own defense, my backpack was stolen with hundreds of pages of notes a week ago. Nice to be heading into finals with nothing. I'll even PM you a progress report if you would like are your parents not going to be a little disappointed, or were you a C student in high school? i hate to say it, but getting a degree from towson with a C average won't be worth much, free or no...lots of kids would love to have a free ride to college, and would take advantage of it, only they weren't blessed with athletic ability...you are taking it for granted... i don't need a progress report...you seem like a generally good kid, honestly...just hate to see you waste this huge advantage you have... 40/70 Benchmark
Jay, figured out EXACTLY what you would like to do with your degree and do internships directly relevant to that career path over the course of your final two summer breaks. Trust me, I'd kill to go back and do that.

He's 18 in a whole different area....bombarded with all new people and a different culture. You wanna make friends and obviously the local "talent" is on display which can be distracting enough. Growing up in South Boston and then going to Towson is a pants tent for him. So I understand how he may not worry yet, but like i said...don't get into a deep hole now. It's a b*tch to crawl back out.

Did you read the second part, about not getting into a deep hole? you don't seem concerned at all...pretty happy with your 2.0...take the advice older, wiser folks have given you in here to heart...don't be satisfied...you are one semester in, plenty of time to recover...but if you maintain the "i'm not too concerned" approach, you will be stuck...my god man, you have the opportunity to emerge from college debt-free...that is an awesome thing, and lots of folks don't have that luxury...use this - take advantage of it... True story. I had that luxury due to my dad, military aid and a very beneficial graduate opportunity. I made money going to grad school. dryslot
Spot on. Jay, I have 2 in college, Grades should be your 1st priority, Everything else should be secondary even your athletics, You still can mix in the social aspects, There will be a time in your life where athletics will no longer play a roll and you will look back and say if only, Don't let it get to where you have to look back and reflect on if only i would have done things differently, Take the advice that others are giving you, There is no free rides in life, Its what you make of it now.. HoarfrostHubb
I really wish I could do my freshman year of college over again. Not serious enough(not partying, but did not really put the effort in). My GPA freshman year blew. I was paying the whole thing myself (no help from my family). Did not take loans out until junior year. I was probably around 20 when I started really taking the ramifications of my earlier ineptness seriously. #NoPoles
if i had head my head in place when i went to school the first time, i would have my degree in meteorology right now...my hindsight is awesome, my foresight sucks!!!
