CT Rain
Euro has some brutal brutal cold coming down the canadian prairies. Let's make sure Kevin knows Mt. Tolland isn't in International Falls, MN

OSUmetstud
I know the talk of the last two winters was the record blocking playing havok with the models...but it seems like the very high values of the +AO this year are doing the same thing to the models this year. The changes out in the 4-8 day range have been pretty remarkable from run to run.
Tropopause_Fold
Let's make sure Kevin knows Mt. Tolland isn't in International Falls, MN Yeah. We'd have to watch that though if something like that unloaded and started to spread through se canada.

dryslot
actually if you believe GEFS it is pretty similar but yea that pig arse ridge sucks. First the Death Vortex now when we kill that we get a pig arse ridge. Right now all we need is Jerrys fooking elephant for the second half of the winter, LOL Yes, And we sit his arse right on top of that ridge to squash it
dryslot
Well, I am going to throw this out here, With that frigid airmass in canada, Don't the models usually underpaly the strengh of the cold airmass and its ability to be further south then progged? ORH_wxman
That SE ridge is a monster on the Euro....591dm height ridge over Florida.
40/70 Benchmark
I'll say this....if the resevoir of cold in Canada verifies at that magnitude, then the entirety of this winter will absolutely, unequivocally not suck; December still may, but the balance will not. Will that verify, WTF knows....
CT Rain
Yeah. We'd have to watch that though if something like that unloaded and started to spread through se canada. jiksports
With those temperatures, a simple clipper can lead to a wide swath of snow due to high ratios.
Baroclinic Zone
Its maddening. I'd have to think if we had even a neutral NAO/AO we would cash in. Still can but will be a lot harder to do.
ORH_wxman
I do like the amount of cold in Canada that appears after the EPO unleashes it, but we need some lower heights over SE Canada to spread the cold more efficiently into the Lakes and New England...that SE Ridge is a monster and will be battling it. dryslot
This is when a little blocking would go a long way to lowering these atlantic heights with that ridge

He went for a month with nothing warmer than about 10. South wind for him is good for us.lol

CoastalWx
I'm convinced that mets only forecast that to cover their azzes in the 1 time in a decade that it actually occurs. Scott....only messn... you have done well. ???

CoastalWx
Someone needs to drop about 50 million tons of ice in the waters off the southeast.
SnowGoose69
That cold air mass in Canada is exactly like 96-97, making it to about the border in MN/ND and then never cutting south.
ORH_wxman
Hopefully you aren't covered with 1" of ice. Could def be an ice threat in this setup. I'd have to think we'd be a bit colder than it shows when we have a 1047mb high just north of the NE/Quebec border with arctic source region.
