The 60's will be nice this week... I think all heck is going to break loose in Jan for a 2 week period like back in 2000.

lmaosmiley.gif The guy that does my landscaping came by this morning and said he heard it was going to snow this weekend and wanted to "prep" my yard and driveway. I asked him if he really heard it was gong to snow or was work just slow right now. You should seen his face. Guess he didn't know I was a weatherologist.pimp.gif

rolleyes.gif They'll be here Thursday morning.

Always nice to be prepared

Gotta love FFC and their forecasting. They forecast a high of 61 for Atlanta and it's currently 65.

They busted, not too bad though unless it ends up being a five degree one then I'm a little more upset with them. I'm sitting at 65 with a forecast high of 62, I would not be surprised to see 66 or 67 today.

I am trying to remember what the weather was like back in Dec 99 before the Carolina Crusher of Jan 2000.

But things do look a little interesting next week and into Christmas. Maybe my call of the first snow here on Dec 28 might not be too far off.

Torch winter is OK with me. do not know if Amwx will be able to handle the negativity though...

Torch winter is ok with me too... as long as we get one good snowstorm. I don't really like sustained periods of cold like we had last winter. I like when we get a big snowstorm and it's melted within 2 days.

Can't wait for Christmas gang, having the extended family here for the first time, menu is planned, shopping is done, decorations are up, and counting down! Going with a modern/contemporary breakfast, non-traditional eggs benedict, english muffins topped with a little baby spinach, followed by some poached medium eggs, coarsely chopped thick cut bacon, homemade hollandaise, green onion, and grated parm for flavor. Served with a nice fruit medley and christmas blend coffee from the Fresh Market. A couple light h'orderves for the early afternoon, bacon/horseradish develed eggs and spring mix salad. Dinner, hopefully on the table around 4, standing rib roast, 1-7, USDA Choice from Sams, served with a tiger dill sauce, homemade mash, and a avocado and black bean salad with a mango/strawberry dressing.

Out of all this, what I am most looking forward to is about 30 minutes on the sofa, early Christmas morning, with the wife, a cup of coffee and the fireplace, enjoying the moment before all hell breaks loose, and I am kitchen-sided...

Sounds awesome! You put a lot of thought into the menu to be sure. The bacon/horseradish deviled eggs has captured my attention. Can't say I have ever had that before but sounds good!

I think we are sticking by the old standards of biscuits, eggs, bacon and gravy for breakfast with some muscidine jelly. Light appetizers between breakfast and lunch with the crackers, summer sausage, cheeses, sausage balls, etc. and a smoked ham, broccoli casserole, hash brown casserole (my daughter's fave), homemade yeast rolls for dinner. Typical fare but awesome comfort food!

I wouldn't be so sure. I know the indexes don't look great at this point, but it's only the 13th of December. I think it will take another week or so to get into a look on the models that consistently support change. A lot of times when models begin flirting with change they are onto something, but in a rushed manner. Around Christmas we should have an idea as to what is coming in January (at least the beginning two weeks). If it's not showing on the models consistently by that time, then it might be mid to late January. I still think we can score cold and an opportunity for snow in the first couple of weeks of January.

Hope you are right for sure. I really don't want to be right about this. If I'm taking the data for purely what it is, there are just not many signs pointing to a cold pattern anytime soon for the SE. MJO, AO, NAO, overall pattern outside of my window, strong SE ridge, the tendency for models to overdo cold, etc. I do think there is a chance that a pretty big(albeit temporary) flip could happen during January. I was leaning Jan 5-10, but now I'd have to say mid-January or later. I think we'll have chances for snow - seems like our area would probably be prime if the flip happens. I do think your comments about cold building over the pole are pretty accurate as I think about them. W/ this +AO, seems to me that the cold will be bottled up at the pole for quite some time, but could legitimately sag into NA at some point and be quite strong during the best part of the year - climate wise. I think that is a legitimate chance at cold. And it is rare for winters to go wall-to-wall cold.

If we're not going to have any chances of snow, I hope it stays warmer than normal. Lets me keep playing basketball outside at lunch.

Also, I have to keep reminding myself that it's very rare for our area to get snow in December, in fact it's rare for even early January, typically our best chances to get snow, for whatever reason are from end of January through February. So yes, let's bring on the warmth for December, save some money on the heating bills and enjoy the outside.

But the last few Februarys have been dead when it comes to snow.

Hot off the iPhone camera, ~ 5 minutes ago, our African daisy is still blooming... Amazing, the one I planted spring 2010 was dead by last Nov, here we are this year, and the plant still has about 4 or 5 flowers, and lots of green. It is an annual, but I am interested in how long it will last, may take some teens to kill the sucker!
